NOFX are strange band. I don?t really see them as a ?hardcore? punk band, more as a vandals style band with a mixture of hardcore themes and funny entertaining hooks. They?re a popular band and if you go up to the average kid on the street who knows a small amount about punk they will know that NOFX exist and what their latest release is called but they are by no means sellouts. I think the only problem with this track is that it was in the back of their minds to prove that by releasing this EP. The first thing is that this is an EP with one song on, with one 18 minute long song on. The lyrics are hardcore, talking about someone being corrupted by the link in American ... The Decline is NOFX best release ever. It is eighteen minutes and twenty seconds of the most political, emotional and even spiritual musical experience I have ever had. Fat Mike, aka Mike Burkett is definitely the Mozart of punk. The scorching licks of El Hefe and the background crunch of Eric Melvin make the perfect front for Fat Mike's emotive, hair-raising bass licks. NOFX's the decline isn't really bad because it's long, the song has a wide selection of various types of tunes from there history, the 20 minute long opus is a step forword for NOFX, they have proven that they can indeed write a song longer than 2 minutes. The song has a certain fragrance from "Clams have feelings too (Actually they don't)" from this year's "Pump Up The Valuum" CD incased within the tune and structure (starting heavy and going SoCal) but this song has shown what Fat Mike grew up on, bands like Dead Kennedys, GBH and Bad Religion are echoed in the song and lyrics. And to all my freinds that said it's too long ... Read the complete review
