Advantages: No Weak Songs

Disadvantages: Dont Know

I first listened to this many, many years and go and I still stick it in my CD player regularly. If my brother didn't tell me about Oasis I wouldn't be half the fan I am now. I have all there albums. When ever they release a new album I will purchase it on the day of release. I am never let down by their albums. I love them all. They are quality. Especially this album, this one is quality, probably the best closely followed by 'What's The Story Morning Glory'.

The love the way the Gallagher's are. They both have great passion for music clearly shown as they are still around after 10 years after there debut album. Noel Gallagher makes fantastic songs and lyrics to go with it are sublime. Liam is less of the musician out of the brothers but he still loves his music. His vocals are great and for some of Oasis's songs only Liam could sing it as well as he does. Liam is a bit of a trouble maker, but as his career has progressed he has become more grown up. The Gallagher have decided this year they are going to make a 'Best of' album, which will hold all their favourite songs. I personally can't wait as the Oasis songs that are going to be on the album are going to be simply breathtaking.

This album is brilliant and I think you will find most of you who likes this kind of music will have this in their CD collection. This was Oasis's first album at kicked off their career with a bang. Many Oasis fans still think this album is the best out of the five albums they have produced over the years. They bought out 4 singles from the album. Those songs being 'Shakermaker', 'Supersonic', 'Live Forever' and 'Cigarettes and Alcohol'. They would have been more of less my choices. I would have like the delightful song 'Married with Children' to be a single. But all the songs on the album are great any way there are no weak songs. If I had to pick my weakest song on this album I would have to say 'Bring It on Down' although I wouldn't say this was a bad song.

Personally I like, What's the Story Morning Glory better than this album. What's the story morning glory hold so many classics the most popular being the excellent songs of 'Wonderwall' and 'Don't Look Back In Anger'. Who doesn't like those songs? They have become more of a Karaoke song now as everyone loves to sing along with them now. Don't get me wrong this album is unbelievable but what's the story morning glory was a bigger step up. I think that the songs have got increasingly different from the debut album to the latest album. Definatly Maybe was more of a Rockier album and Don't Believe the Truth is slower, softer and more of ballad songs like 'Let There Be Love'. Much more slower and emotional coming towards the end of their career.

When this came out a lot of people were crazy for Oasis they were the band to follow for this genre. They filled there concerts out with ease and they still do to date. I went to there latest at the Nottingham Ice Arena. They did it over two nights and for the two nights they completely sold out in 3 minutes. The lines opened at nine and they had to close them at 3 minutes past nine. There definitely one of the best supported bands I've ever known. I've got a Oasis shirt although it is a little dated now. Over the years there have been many ins and outs of the band and at the moment it's the best ever. Perfect blend. All the members have now wrote a song for the band apart from the drummer Zak Starky. Yes, Ringo Starky son. He is better than the drummer who was around for this album. He wasn't good enough so he left.

The cover is good. Not that covers can be great but you can certainly get bad cover. A bad cover would be the one for the album of Arctic Monkey's Whatever People say I Am, That's What I'm Not. Which has a man smoking a cigarette. That is a bad influence and will put customers off buying it. On the front cover it has them in there house just sitting there with cigarettes and alcohol on show on the floor. Liam Gallagher is lying on the wood flooring. On the back it almost the same but it's not. They are just standing and sitting in different positions. It also list the song list on the back cover. The book just has pictures of them in black and white. It has ten pages in the booklet.

The lyrics for this album are sublime. The song with the best lyrics is probably 'Slide Away' and 'Married with Children'. Both are fantastically written by Noel Gallagher. Liam sings just as good as Noel writes. Liam has a unique voice which suits the songs to perfection. On average the songs look to be about 4 and half minutes long. The longest song on the album slide away just behind it is Columbia which is 6 minutes 17 seconds. All the songs are sung by Liam. The more Oasis has gone on though Noel has got more of the share in singing the songs. It's just a shame there's only 11 songs featured.

Song Review

Rock 'N' Roll Star
Incredible intro which includes a great sounding riff. Great vocals from Liam- 'I live my life in the citeeeeee' and 'I need some time in the sunshineeeeeeeee' absolutely classic. Even the character of soccer am refers to it. Amazing Chorus and love how the verses lead into the chorus. Another great Riff further on in the song. As it ends the songs slows down and there are different interesting sounds. Fabulous
10/10

Shakermaker
A good soft sounding intro which leads into Liam singing slowing along to the lyrics. To be honest the lyrics are not to good in this song. The lyrics are more like a joke. This is not one of the best song on the album. Riff in the middle of the song. This can get boaring after a while. This song finishes a bit like Rock 'N' Roll Star.. This was a single on the album
7/10

Live Forever.
Who doesn't know this song? Absolute classic. This is a song to sing along to. Maybe the lyrics are right. Maybe Oasis will live forever as they have shown they are not giving up easily. Amazing riff in the middle. Simply breatking guitar playing towards the end of the song when the singing stop. Typical oasis. This was one of the singles from the album.
10/10

Up In the Sky
This is very underrated I love it personally. Love how the song flows with a perminat beat. Liam's vocals are as good as ever. The lyrics are good. Nice riff now and again. The song get through the verses and chorus very quickly. Great chorus. As every song so far it end perfectly.
8/10

Columbia
Mysterious sounds right at the beginning with a drum beat in the background as a guitar solo comes in and after about 30 seconds Liam starts singing in a fairly low pitched. Good lyrics it's about there career its obvious what it's about if you listen to it. 'There we were, now here we are'. It's how they have progressed in the music business. The same lyrics are repeated a fair number of times. Good Song.
8/10

Supersonic.
Now this is a song. Fantastic into and riff at the beginning. This is also one that many sing a long to. Good lyrics and often comical lyrics. I love the verse which leads in to the chorus each time. Another great ending with a whole minute of guitar and drum playing and then the song fades out. Brilliant.
10/10

Bring It On Down
Certainly not the best song on the album but good. I like the lyrics and they are sung to perfection. I do like the chorus which is sung many times. This is probably the weakest song unfortunately. But again like the guitar sound in the middle. Again a majority of the song is just a instrumental at the end of the song. Which sounds brilliant.
7/10

Cigarettes and Alcohol.
Well Cigarettes and Alcohol. What a song. This is pure oasis through and though. Only Liam's voice could sing through this song. It is unique. The lyrics are good and make sense unlike in many other bands songs. The last minute yet again left for a little instrumental. Great
9/10

Digsy's Dinner
This is a delightful song and is underrated. Digsy is one of the band members who plays guitar. It's about Digsy's dinners quite obviously. The lyrics are comedy. Fantastic beat at the beginning with different chords playing. Amazing chorus. This is a real upbeat song which you will want to sing a long to. Good instrumentals in the middle of the song. 'What a life it would beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee' classic.
9/10

Slide Away
Well what can you say about this song. It's excellent. Amazing lyrics and vocals throughout. The intro is good as always for Oasis. Just a fabulous song all 6.32 minutes of it. Another good song to sing along to. Ten songs in and still not a bad song. Good isn't it.
10/10
Married With Children
This is my personal favourite although it might not be everyone's favourite. This beautiful acoustic song suits Liam voice perfectly. Great Lyrics. This is the ultimate song to sing a long to in my opinion the slow acoustic song are brilliant when it's by Oasis. Just like 'Sad Song' which is sung by Noel. Oasis should do more slower songs. It suits them but they should also do the faster one's like 'Supersonic'. So they need to get a good balance. This song end the album and is a good song to do so.
10/10

Band 5/5
Cover/ Booklet 3/5
Songs 5/5
Lyrics 4/5
Vocals 4/5
Overall 5/5

This album is an ultimate to have in your CD collection. From Oasis's point of view they couldn't have had a better debut album. This album has got the lot and features many classics. I am please for all you who own this. But if you don't I would advise you to buy this right now and it will be cheap now.
