With their fifth album, Astarte move away from their traditional black metal sound to embrace a more commercially viable melodic death metal style of equal credibility, still retaining their black metal base in a number of songs but placing a greater emphasis on Tristessa's melodic lead guitars opposite her husky rasp. Although it would be a better world if these things didn't draw attention to themselves through scarcity, it has to be noted that Astarte is an all-female band, a rarity in extreme metal indeed, and their reputation with their musical community has evidently afforded the Greek girls a higher production job as well as the opportunity for an impressive host ...
