Bathory are one of the few bands that I don't feel able to adequately rate under a five star system, as this first release of the new millennium is certainly better than their earlier thrash effort 'Requiem' but not as good as the classic early material, so it falls at round about three and a half stars. 'Destroyer of Worlds' feels like a conscious attempt by Quorthon to reconcile the various movement he's taken Bathory through over its near-twenty-year career, but it ultimately ends up proving that his primary talent lies in the more epic Viking material, as opposed to less inspired thrash.
