Supergrass fail to transfer their live brilliance onto record.

It could be argued that Brit Pop survivors Supergrass along with Suede and possibly The Charlatans were prolific at producing consistently good singles during the nineties. However when it comes to albums I would not rate any of their 6 studio albums above 7/10 except I Should Coco (their debut). In fact I would name their greatest hits compilation Supergrass Is 10 as my favourite Supergrass album.
Diamond Hoo Ha ironically gets off to a blinder with the 2 singles Diamond Hoo Ha Man and Bad Blood. Diamond Hoo Ha Man with its "bite me" line and White Stripes style riff is a brilliant song which is right up there in Supergrass heaven alongside Pumping On Your Stereo, Sun Hits The Sky and Richard III. Sadly the album begins to sag a little after this but recaptures its earlier excellence later on with Ghost Of A Friend and Outside.
Supergrass are a brilliant live band and earlier this year I saw Gaz Coombes and co. play most of these songs live and they sounded so much better. What a pity that they don't transfer so well onto record.
