Dark Days In Paradise - Gary Moore
by micraman - written on 04/12/02 (Useful, 90 readings)
Rating:
After having spent the first part of his career as "the guitarist from Thin Lizzy", Gary branched out as solo artist spending about 10 years down the hard rock road building up his following. In 1990 he decided to return to his blues roots and spent the next 6 years or so raising his profile as one of the best blues guitarists in this country if not the world. This record will then come as a bit of shock to most. neither hard rock or blues. This is a brilliant collection of songs which show Gary at the his peak of guitar playing. From rock music to dance music to Gary expressing his inner thoughts, this album has it all. Beware of the opening track, One good ...
Dark Days In Paradise - Gary Moore
by Pestilence - written on 19/01/09 (1 readings)
Rating:
I was first introduced to the music of Gary Moore by listening to his albums After Hours and Still Got The Blues, two of his (to date) greatest albums with some classic songs - both of these albums made me pick up an old, battered guitar and learn to play. After many years of waiting Gary gave us Dark Days in Paradise, and I must say I was dissapointed with it. Instead, Gary has decided to experiment with various effects on the guitar and various dance tracks which give his songs a strong and solid beat. This is a real shame as his ...
Grinding Stone - Gary Moore

Rating:
six tracks on this CD you’d be forgiven for thinking that 1973’s Grinding Stone was an EP. In fact, it’s a stupendously brilliant LP. This was at a time when Gary Moore had grown out of his bluesy roots and this was the start of a good long time doing rock. One of the special things about Moore is his unwillingness to do the same thing twice. Throughout his career he has played classical, blues, jazz, and in 1973, Hard Rock guitar. All of it exceptional. This was the 1st, and last, album to be recorded by the Gary Moore Band (which featured Moore on vocals and guitar, Pearse Kelly on drums and percussion and John Curtis on ...

Melodic focus becomes a little dull.

An excellent live album, fantastic from start to finish.
The songs all sound very similar, this may put some off listening.

Abandons the experiments of recent years in favour of a more commercially viable sound.

The album consists of a number of excellent punk rock tracks.
