At last, another good Oasis album! (Dig Out Your Soul - Oasis)
Member Name: liamb71
Advantages: 'The shock of the lightning' and 'Ain't got Nothing Disadvantages: Overall the second half is not as good as the first I am one of the many, I suspect, who absolutely loved 'Definitely Maybe', was only slightly less euphoric about 'Morning Glory', and have carried on buying Oasis albums in the hope that someday they may scale the heights again. This is without doubt the nearest they have come to doing so since then. The album starts with a reminder of how much the boys love The Beatles, with 'Bag it up' sounding like something that could easily have made it onto 'Sergeant Pepper'. Next up is 'The Turning', which takes you back to a more recent past when Oasis and Britpop were at their prime, before the Lennon/McCartney influence returns on 'Waiting for the Rapture'. Fourth track 'The Shock of the Lightning' does stand out and it is no surprise that it was the first single, and is swiftly follwed by most recent and more thoughtful single 'I'm Outta Time'. The latter stages of the album are less distinguished, with the exception of the brilliantly catchy 'Ain't Got Nothing', but overall after years of substandard, overblown and just plain uninspring offerings from the Gallagher brothers, this is a welcome reminder that they still have something to offer fifteen years after they first made us all sit up and listen. Summary: Well worth a listen |
