Advantages: mostly good songs
Disadvantages: a few not so great
Patrick Chukwuemeka Okogwu or Tinie Tempah as he is better known has been one of the success stories in British music over the past year or so. He has had a couple of number ones and also other hit singles near the top of the charts. He has also won a couple of Brit awards (best breakthrough and best single) in 2011 and also a couple of MOBOs (best newcomer and best video) in 2010 being some of the highlights. His album (Disc-overy) which I am going to review was also nominated for the mercury music prize for album of the year. The album features 13 tracks in total and was released in October 2010.

The Album itself
The album features a few other artists including Kelly Rowland, Ellie Goulding, Eric Turner and Labrinth.
The first track is an intro and this is where Tinie introduces himself. "I'm an extra-terrestrial/Came up out the dirt like a vegetable". The album starts off well with the track 'Simply Unstoppable'. He is in his element here with his lyrics and rhyming and use of words. This is a good song to start off the album which also shows off his big persona and also ego. The next track was the one that really got him noticed which is 'Pass out.' This song is the first single off the album and it went to number one. It has catchy lyrics and also good use of wordplay. Illusion is another song which is less of a dance song and gives an account of growing up and becoming famous. Just a little is more of a dance track with a beat to match. I am not a huge fan of this track. Snap is another below par track and one of the weaker ones off the album. Written in the stars is another top track and number 1 single. It features the great vocals from Eric Turner which blend well with Tinies rhyming lyrics. There is also some wordplay in this one. "So when they see me everybody brrrrraps, brrrrrraps ,Man I'm like a young gun fully black Barrack." Frisky is another dance track which was relatively successful in the charts and made it into the top 5. The next song is Miami to Ibiza which was another single making the top 5. I was n;t a big fan of this and the feature from Swedish House mafia wasn't something I really liked but it will appeal to the club audience. The other two big tracks are Invincible with Kelly Rowland and Wonderman featuring Ellie Goulding . These are both pretty decent tracks but were less successful in the charts as they came after his album was released.
This is a good album overall but not quite great. There are plenty of top tracks (more than half) but there are a few tracks where he veers off course and he sometimes doesn't know where he really wants to fit in. He comes across as sometimes trying to tick too many boxes and appeal to the most people. On the non clean version of the album there are also plenty of foul words especially the F word which is quite clear through his songs so may not be best for younger generation. He is though at his best when spouting his lyrics across a beat with his wordplay. There is enough of this to give this album just about 4 stars from me.
Summary: decent first album from Tinie Tempah
