Desciple of the Heinous Path is the second album by Finnish black metal band Sargeist, and continues very much in the vein of its predecessor 'Satanic Black Devotion', with a repetitive, hypnotic and droning mid-to-fast-paced sound full of melancholy and with overtones of the output of Judas Iscariot, yet with wonderfully sad melodic riffs worked into the murk and an underlying punky feel that reminds strongly in places of the output of fellow countrymen Behexen.
There are some distinctly chuggy and coarse Darkthrone-esque passages thrown in as well, which complement the windswept, blizzard-like main body of the music nicely. There's also more than a hint of the eastern black metal sound of Ukrainian neighbours Drudkh worked into the mix as well, and these different elements are all brought together into well-realised song-structures that once again bring to mind freezing, lashing rain and desolate, windswept nocturnal landscapes.
The lyrics are the same rasping, harsh shrieks as before, sitting nicely midway down in the mix. The album cover is once again very silly, but as with 'Satanic Black Devotion', 'Disciple of the Heinous Path' proves itself to be a moving and atmospheric piece of black metal in the distinctive Finnish style that is bound to appeal to fans of Behexen, Darkthrone, Burzum and Gorgoroth amongst others.
