If you're looking for a place to start with the Pet Shop Boys and want to discover some of their best tracks, then this could well be it. A hist compilation which takes their earlier works and will allow you a glimpse into some of the biggest singles. Who are they: Neil Tennant sings, Chris Lowe plays the keyboards. They write and produce most of their own material. On this album: 'West End Girls' started it off for the guys, a homage to the west end boys and girls of London. Tennant's vocals sound fresh and youthful and the song is somewhat of a landmark. 'Opportunties' is a ballsy song, with snapy lyrics about the the fame ... Read the complete review

Question. What connects Kate ‘Rent-a-quote’ Thornton with Neil Tennant from the Pet Shop Boys? Is it a) they’re both double jointed, b) they are both allergic to anchovies or c) they both used to edit ‘Smash Hits’? Well, yes, it is true. They were both once the top cheeses at the institution that has been downgraded in my eyes from ‘pop bible’ to ‘pop also-ran’ as teenybopper-targeted ‘acts’ continue their assault on the Top 40. Either that, or I’m just too old and cynical to be interested in the latest Tom Watkins managed ‘next big thing’… The Pet Shop Boys have ... Read the complete review

'Discography' is best described as the rough guide to the first eight years of the Pet Shop Boys, at it simply compiles 18 of their singles in chronological order. Surprisingly, the album fails even in the basic task of bringing the appropriate tracks together - as two obvious choices are missed. The Pet Shop Boys' first single, 'Opportunities (Original 7" Version)' is not to be found, only the remixed, re-released 1986 version. The second version is by no means inferior, but the exclusion of the original is disappointing. Worse is the omission of 'How Can You Expect To Be Taken Seriously?', one half of a double a-side pairing with 'Where The ... Read the complete review

In the mid-1980s, the Pet Shop Boys arrived to the scene with their first single "West End Girls". Since then, the band has put out a brilliant collection of albums and hit singles. In 1991, the band released their first compilation album, "Discography-The Complete Singles Collection". "Discography" shows a lot of the singles from 1985 through 1991 from the duo of Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe. Four of these singles would become number one in the U.K. charts. With Neil Tennant's masterful lyrics and Chris Lowe's musical arrangements, the Pet Shop Boys showed a lot of what the 80s was about. Tennant talked about ... Read the complete review

Growing up in the 1980s the Pet Shop Boys were a very dominant band at the time. This album is a celebration of the years from 1985 to 1991. Featuring 18 singles from that era, the album includes the number ones "West End Girls", "It's a Sin" and "Always on my Mind". There are also decent tracks like "Rent" and "So Hard" on it. Of course as it was released in 1991 it is no longer the comprehensive greatest hits. If you want that you might be better off waiting for a while because in this day and age another greatest hits package cannot be far away. Of course if you're like myself and ...
