... Britain has produced. Forget your Amy's and Duffys. The depth and richness of Lennox's voice is like warm honey. For the songs themselves, well I couldn't find any flaws on the album. The opener Why will always be the song people know from Annie's solo career, the lyrics, the music and the melody are just so good, it is probably one of the best songs ever written. Broken Glass is just so much fun, the lyrics maybe slightly dark but the music is just joyous. My favourite song on the album is probably The Gift. The album al...more

Premium Review Diva - Annie Lennox: The best female voice in British pop music (258 words)
by - written on 25/02/09 (Useful, 22 readings)

The first album I bought when I was 15 years old and 3 years after it was released. The reason I bought it? I saw the video for Walking On Broken Glass and I just knew this woman could sing. I had to that point never heard of Eurythmics except maybe for Sweet Dreams but I didn't know of all the other songs. Annie Lennox is without a doubt one of the greatest singers that Britain has produced. Forget your Amy's and Duffys. The depth and richness of Lennox's voice is like warm honey. I’m a child of the 80’s. Well, alright then, a teenager of the 80’s. But that does mean that the music of the 80’s and 90’s is the most significant for me personally and holds the most meaning. Among the most influential bands of the 80’s for me were the Eurythmics, the dynamic combination of Annie Lennox and Dave Stewart. That of course was not withstanding the band’s obvious talent with such hits as “Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)”, and “Love is a Stranger”. It’s quite difficult to attach a label to the Eurythmics as their ...  Read the complete review

Rating:

The Eurythmics were one of the most innovative and distinctive bands of the 1980's , producing hits like 'Sweet Dreams' and 'There Must Be An Angel Playing With My Heart' amongst their 9 Top 10 hits. Along with her partner Dave Stewart, Annie Lennox became one of British pop's most recognisable symbols of the 1980's with her ever changing hair and dress sense as well as one of the most respected vocalists of her generation. After Stewart married Bananarama and Shakespear's Sister star Siobhan Fahey, the Eurythmics split and Annie went about recording her first solo studio album. Three years later in 1992, she emerged with ...  Read the complete review
