Who Can You Trust - Morcheeba

Premium Review You can trust 'em: Who can you trust? (283 words)
by Fatlad - written on 06/08/00 (Very useful, 78 readings)
Rating:

Morcheeba’s debut album is heavily influenced by the Bristol scene, in fact they sound remarkably like Potishead. Thankfully though they don’t sound like a cheap imitation more like a band that have revised the original formula, here they sound less oppressive and depressing than Portishead will ever sound. Although the general feel is that of ‘Trip Hop’ it is with slightly more upbeat drum loops and bass lines that give a fresh feel to this highly accomplished record. Songs such as “Moog island”, Trigger hippie”, and “Tape loop” standout as definite highlights here. Filled with Skye Edward’s beautiful voice and the ...

Big Calm - Morcheeba

Premium Review Mellow Morcheeba (207 words)
by beowulf - written on 30/07/00 (Very useful, 78 readings)
Rating:

My only complaint is the rather weak finish to the album with the frankly ridiculous 'Big Calm' which destroys the relaxing mood built up over the previous 10 tracks. Its a brave attempt to try something different, but Morcheeba don't have to do anything different and shouldn't have bothered on this occasion. Avoid. This, however, is a very minor gripe and shouldn't dissuade anyone from grabbing the nearest available copy of this magnificent album. ...

Mellow Trippy and Lovely (126 words)

This was Morcheeba's second album and I bought it after hearing one or two singles from it. As the title suggests it's a mellow, chilled out kind of album. There's some very upbeat songs like 'Shoulder Holster' but Morcheeba's sound on this album is individual enough not to sound like chart pop. There's quite ...

Some of the tracks are okay, the choruses fairly catchy. The music is stolen entirely from others, incredibly unoriginal and bland.
