Darius demonstrates his ability to move into a higher register on this track and there are some nice touches in that respect. This was the follow-up single to Colourblind, although it wasn't as successful. ***Incredible (What I Meant To Say)*** This is another commercial mid-tempo track that was released after Colourblind and Rushes. Crowned Review Dive In - Darius: The triump of the underdog (1636 words)
by - written on 13/05/03 (Very useful, 135 readings)
Rating:

We love the underdog in this country, but we also love to bring people down a peg or two if they dare to take a chance, or do something which expresses an unacceptable level of self confidence. Darius Danesh has been on the receiving end of both positive and negative media coverage, and the public perception which goes hand in hand with that. I am the first to admit that I did find him irritating when the Popstars programme first aired, but I never understood the level of hatred that was directed at him in the media. What was his crime? Dodgy facial hair and a cocky attitude.....could the same not be said for Billy Connelly? I do not see him being crucified! We need to ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Much much better than I was expecting! (858 words)
by - written on 29/05/09 (Very useful, 20 readings)
Rating:

I know that a lot of people have a low opinion of Darius, as he had a reputation for being cheesy and not very cool. However, I can honestly say that this album is one of my favourites, and I like the majority of the tracks on it. For those of you who are not very familiar with Darius' singing style, he is a singer-songwriter who rose to fame on reality television show, Pop Idol, after coming third. He originally auditioned for the Popstars series but didn't make it into Hear'Say (or Liberty X for that matter). Ironically, he was only included in the Pop Idol live shows after Rik Waller was eliminated due to a sore throat, but went on to come third after changing the ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Dive In - Darius: An accomplished debut (I'm not joking it REALLY is good!) (643 words)
by - written on 19/11/08 (Very useful, 30 readings)
Rating:

Quote from 2001 ''I just want to say, i will be a successful recording artist and i will have a number one single and a platinum album''. (or along these words, i'm guessing!) Well in 2001 a beard and Darius Danesh went to audition to sing in band Hearsay but Darius was rejected and when he was he said the above ungraciously in the most respectful way possible. Branded as a british laughing stock during this time he was laughed at and jokes from various chat shows followed. Left hopeless and uninspired in 2002, Darius took a huge look - he changed his look and risked to it all to audition for a show called Pop Idol and he was met with open arms especially ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Dive In With Darius- Don't Knock It Until You've Tried It! (878 words)
by - written on 09/05/09 (Very useful, 78 readings)
Rating:

Darius Danesh first came to fame through the TV program Popstars; where he performed a horrendous and now infamous version of the Britney Spears song Hit Me Baby One More Time (I can see you're imagining it now complete with greasy hair, mustache and cringy clicking!!!). Despite not making it into Hear'say (probably for the best for him!), he bounced back by auditioning for Pop Idol in 2001, complete with new attitude and new hair (also minus the facial fuzz). In a complete underdog story, he managed to finish third after Will Young and Gareth Gates and went on to release 5 singles and this, his debut album in 2002. Darius has since starred in West End productions ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Dive In - Darius: In a rush over Darius (236 words)
by - written on 08/02/09 (Very useful, 13 readings)
Rating:

Darius found fame through Pop Idol and eventually the X Factor, finishing third to Will Young and Gareth Gates. I always had a soft spot for his music. His voice was warm and inviting and he had a discreet charm about him. This was his debut album and was a top ten hit. Who: Singer and songwriter Darius Danesh, popular around 2002-2003 in the charts. On this album: The lead song is 'Colourblind' which is lovely. A mellow song, with a guitar which stops and starts and draws you in. Darius' vocals are tender and on the mark here and the lyrics are also smart. 'Rushes' was the followup and was more of the same, with a sweeping ...  Read the complete review

Travelogue: Deluxe Edition - Joni Mitchell
Wonderful orchestral arrangements and rich music throughout None!

Side One - Adrian Belew
Glorious return, most experimental solo release to date. Still sounds like the stuff he was doing in the eighties.

Side Three - Adrian Belew
Satisfying conclusion, building on its predecessors and introducing new elements. Clear overlap with Belew's concurrent work in King Crimson.

Side Two - Adrian Belew
A different approach that works surprisingly well. Songs tend to sound the same.

Op Zop Too Wah - Adrian Belew
Adrian Belew finally gives the fans what they want. Some of the tracks are ridiculous and pointless, but that still lends them a certain charm.

Mr. Music Head - Adrian Belew
Mix of catchy pop and slightly more experimental songs. Neither style works especially well.

Inner Revolution - Adrian Belew
The guitar is back, at least. Belew continues to produce disappointing pop, several decades out of date.

Here - Adrian Belew
Re-introduces long-absent guitar experimentation. Mostly Beatles plagiarism.

Coming Attractions - Adrian Belew
If you were desperate for an Adrian Belew release in 2000. Unfinished, disappointing new songs and pointlessly reproduced old ones.

Desire Of The Rhino - Adrian Belew
You don't have to buy the full-length albums. It's still not that great.
