Rating:

Advantages: 3 Top 10 Singles, Strong and Creative Tracks, Original

Disadvantages: Enchanced CD Rip Off

Well, what have I to say about this debut album from one of the laughing stock from Pop Idol? Nothing but two thumbs and two toes up. This is a great album.

When I bought the CD, it says it has a special feature of exclusive video contents accessible via a web link but unfortunately it doesn’t work anymore. All it has now is just a blank page with a picture of Darius that will launch in your computer when you pop in the CD. Well, so much for the CD being enhanced. Rip Off on that part, the rest is fine.

Album Details:

Release Date: December 2, 2002
Number of Discs:1
Label: Universal
Tracks: 13
Total Running Time: 52 minutes 31 seconds

The CD cover features Darius posing in front of a car which I believe is the same one as in the video of Colorblind. The whole CD inlay is printed in full color and best of all has all the lyrics in it so one can sing to their hearts content without having to go somewhere to search for the lyrics. This is what all albums should be made like as I believe that everyone that buys a CD deserves to at least have the lyrics to songs in the booklet.

Track Listings and Reviews…

1. Colorblind (3:35)
Who can’t remember this classic from Darius, his self penned debut no 1 single. It is a great track and demonstrates his creativity in writing. The lyrics are absolutely amazing and can be sung along after hearing it for the second time. The video for this track was filmed in the US in some desert and features an extra pretty model. This is what I would say the Darius theme song. It gets an incredible 5 out of 5.

2. Rushes (3:34)
When most people think that Darius is a one hit wonder, he comes back with his second self penned single that was a top 10 hit. The song Rushes takes time before one can like it. I have to hear it a couple of times before deciding that it is a good track. It has some similarity with colorblind and one can easily identify it as a Darius song. The video for this song is filmed in the US as well and I like the part when he is driving in the tunnel and everything starts to flash past quickly during the chorus. This song rates a deserving 4 out of 5.

3. Incredible (What I Meant To Say) (3:34)
Track 3 starts with a combination of guitar and claps. This is a fun track and about the times we accidentally say something we do not mean. It is when our tongues slipped and say things that hurt our loved ones. This song rates 4 out of 5 for both the creativity and catchy tune.

4. Girl in the Moon (3:34)
Finally a softer version of other Darius songs, you can hear his vocals clearly and this song gets you after hearing it for a few times. I did not like this song at all when it first came out. I guess it was because it wasn’t the usual style that Darius sings. However, he manages to carry the song brilliantly. This song rates a handsome 4 out of 5.

5. I'm Not Buying (4:22)
Darius chooses to sing about not accepting the fact that the relationship is ending. He believes that there is still hope in the relationship and every relationship can be saved. The song is not too bad and has good background music but I feel it tends to clash with the vocals and one can tend to struggle to listen to what Darius is saying. Well, it rates a disappointing 2 out of 5.

6. Dive In (4:02)
The album title track but not the strongest song as it has weak lyrics compared to others. The lyrics for this song are easily predictable but has a just a little bit of good tune to save the song but not enough to make it excel. It rates a 1 out of 5.

7. I Gotta Know Tonight (3:22)

Watch out for this track coming up again at the end of the album. Honestly this version is weaker than the demo version but it is more polished. It boasts very strong and original lyrics but unfortunately did not shine from the others. This song rates 3 out of 5 for just being blunt.

8. Sliding Doors (4:13)

This song reminds me of the movie sharing the same title starring Gyweth Paltrow (Not too sure on how to spell her name though). It starts off with an interesting tune and Darius rhyming more than singing but further into the chorus of the song, the tune catches on and he starts singing. It rates an average of 3 out of 5.

9. Simple Like The Truth (4:24)

The truth is simple. What a nice title and the song kick off with a silent and a plain instrument tune. This is literally like the softer side of the album as we move on towards the end. The selection of the songs is all softer. This track is about a relationship and encouraging to tell the truth than keeping it hidden. It rates a 2 out of 5.

10. Better Than That (3:59)

I was about to fall asleep but luckily this track save me. It came at the perfect time to bring life to the dying mood of slow songs. It is not a good song compared to the rest but at least it has a stronger tune. It rates a 2 out of 5.

11. Mocking Bird (3:33)

This song is no surprise than the rest as it is just the plain old simple Darius style. One of the weakest tracks in the album I would say. It rates 2 out of 5.

12. Mercury Rising (4:59)

The moment I saw the title, it reminded me of the movie with Bruce Willis in. Sorry for mentioning that but that is what came into my mind while reviewing this CD. This song is really plain and not as catchy as the earlier track. I believe that they’ve decided to end the album with softer tracks and what a perfect choice with this song. It rates a 3 out of 5.

13. I Gotta Know Tonight (Songwriting Demo) (4:15)

A bonus track that at first I do not know the title at all but a quick search on the internet helped me out with this. This is basically the same song as track no 7 but is the demo version. Usually, an artist would record a demo after completing penning the song. So, this is the first version of the song that is ever made. It is basically a combination of piano and the vocal power of Darius. It has turned out very good and that they have decided to include it as a bonus track is a very good decision. This song rates 4 out of 5.

My conclusions,

This CD is a must have for pop fans as it is a collection that is worth to have. It features originally style of music. It is what I would name the unique Darius sound. If you have liked all the singles released for this album than this CD is perfect for you.

I hope this helps!

I look forward in hearing constructive feedback about my review and please leave them in your comments or on my guestbook and I will try and get back to you as soon as possible.

Have A Nice Day!!!

Must say I'm not a fan, not because of his music or anything, mostly because he's so slappable.
