After a few years in the wilderness, John Squire, of Stone Roes fame, hit back at the musical world with an album and new band. The Seahorses carried with them the legacy of owning the creative one from the almighty smash band of the late 80's who were the Stone Roses. So with a follow up album that did nt quite hit the market like it was intended and growing differences with the band, the Stone Roses split and went off to their own solo projects. The immediate success of the Seahorses was shortlived though. Today they are not really mentioned. Their music was possibly too tuneful to match the raw sound of the Stone Roses. The seahorses had to be one of the bests groups around , so why did they have to split up ( boo hoo ) . I first became aware of there existance when I listened to a NOW CD that I had been given as a birthday present . Love is the Law was the second track , and I couldn't stop listening to it ( listen to the lyrics they are very clever ) . I then went into Our Price to investigate further and I found their album Do It Yourself , well I love every song on the album . Blinded by the Sun has to be my absolute favourite , it's so mellow . I was surprised to find myself enjoying this, but I was clearly under-estimating this band. The first 3 songs are all crackers, but this album can also boast consistency. All the songs are good, although the over-long wall of guitar plonked onto the end of Love Is The Law had me reaching for the ‘next track’ button. Happiness Is Eggshaped wins ‘the most daft title’ award, and 1999 also deserves a mention simply for being great. Do it yourself, try it. ... Read the complete review

John Squire, one of Britain's best modern guitarists, is the force behind The Seahorses who here have released an alternately melancholic and absurdly enthused album peppered by some rousing tunes. The centerpiece is the song Love Is The Law, a release that beams with free-spiritedness and an extended revel of guitar soloing. Love Me And Leave Me is partly penned by Liam Gallagher of Oasis and it shows bright rays of color. The Boy In The Picture is another stand-out, with its passion for things lost. Most of the other tracks tag along or are downright late in arriving, all retain strokes of unique talent. ... Read the complete review
