Advantages: some hot tunes, it's 2pac
Disadvantages: not his best, no more 2pac
Being a big 2pac fan, when this hit the stores in 96, shortly after his controversial death, I was really excited. Let’s face it after all eyez on me who wouldn’t. But this was not the man’s best album. To me it was a man who was looking for a quick image change with “makaveli” and therefore rushed through the album. Don’t get me wrong it’s a great album, for any other artist it would be the pinnacle of their career but for tupac I don’t know. To be honest I’m probably too critical of this guy, considering I cant rap for sh*t. Anyway, this album still offers some top beats for your die-hard Pac fan. “hail mary” really gets the album underway, rocking beats, true deathrow and some class 2pac lyrics with a little gangster twist. Toss it up, is reminiscent of “no digity” with the soft R&b vocals of Danny boy, jo-jo, and Aaron Hall as well as the “husky” K-ci, backed up with the man himself doing his hardcore gangster thing. Basically if u like “how do you want it” then toss it up is for you. “to live in die in La” ain’t my favourite but when summer comes around this tune has more of an appeal to it. After the smooth, to an extent feel good songs 2pac, sorry Makavelli returns to his more gangster style, with blasphemy, again its alright but nothing special. “life as an outlaw” is classic tupac, rocking beats, strong lyrics, as is “just like daddy” which I’m feeling to the fullest. “krazy”, isn’t bad, good lyrics, nice chorus, but that’s all. “white man’z world” is the sort of song I like, and is more like “all eyez on me” style, you know the score, Tupac doing his thing with a nice R&b vocal background. “me and my Girlfriend” is hot, great duo song wit some bird, sorry don’t know who, ace beats, ace chor
us, ace deathrow song. “hold ya head” is tupac’s token shout out to his boyz who is fighting life in the gutters. Finally “against all odds” isn’t that special and is mainly a diss at miss “Deloris Tucker” Overall this album, is not the best offering from 2pac, but is still worth the purchase. Especially since there is no more deathrow, it’s the last time you'll be able to get those classic deathrow beats.
