Advantages: an Original and more creative Oasis
Disadvantages: Anything that isnt written by Noel is ropey to say the least
Ohhhh, its a tricky one..... Oasis continue to rock the boat over 10 years since their first single came out, popular opinion still swinging about and whether you love them or hate them it seems your still talking about them.
In Their 5th album 'Dont believe the Truth' i perceive a more layed back style which is easy to beleive as both the Gallagher brothers are settling into family life, slowly but surely leaving the drug fueled days of Definately Maybe behind for good. This is an album that may be sniffed at by some for not being quite as snappy as its predisessors and on the first few listens it does come accros maybe a little weak, but as with all good albums becomes something diferent and amazing as you let the individual songs take shape in your mind.
Opening track 'Turn up the Sun' is a ballsy rock by numbers belter with a typical Oasis style riff, nothing special, but guaranteed to get your toes tapping. The bands love affair with The Beatles continues with 'Let there Be Love' which some may consider a rip off as it sounds like it could have been written by Sir Mccartney himself. Its a lighters in the affair, you can just imagine how great it would be hearing this at a stadium concert in its full glory.
The stand out track on 'Dont believe The Truth'is 2nd single 'The Importance of Being Idle' Showing off Noels song writting talent to the full, this may be one of the best songs he's ever written, with its complex soaring melodies and eerie chords reminiscent of The Coral. This marks a new, more creative path for Oasis that hasnt really been seen before.
Now im not really into slow ballady type songs unless they're really special so for me 'Dont beleive The Truth' does have a few turkeys. Im not that keen on Liams latest effort 'Guess God thinks im able' which comes accross quite whiney and repetitive in this recording and with 'Songbird' under his belt as well, shows liam up to be the sop we always knew he was!
With every new Effort from the Gallagher camp we get the usual "Its better than Definately Maybe" and everyone gets their hopes up, only to be dissapointed when they're fooled by the hype machine again. Standing alone this is a Great album with loads of variety to keep everyone happy. So Oasis live on, without that spark perhaps but reliable as ever, I cant imagine the music world without them.
Summary: Theyve still got it...............
