‘Don’t Bore Us - Get To The Chorus’ - ROXETTE
Well that’s an original title for sure , and in effect quite accurate , as the chorus to any Roxette song is what makes it .
And is this another just another album ,well not really , as it is their greatest hits upto and including 1995 - probably their most constructive and inflential period ..
For value purposes you get a total of 18 great songs , the first and last two being new tracks at the time of release , ala ABBA - ‘The First 10 Years’ .
The track listing ( track , original album taken from , album release year) , is as follows , with a little on the musical style just for luck.....
1) ‘June Afternoon’ - N/A ( 1995 )
Pop rock for a summers day.
2) ‘You Don’t Understand Me’ - N/A ( 1995 )
Moody rock ballad depicting a relationship breaking up.
3) ‘The Look’ - LOOK SHARP ( 1988 )
Who rox - Roxette of course with a catchy ditty ,nice guitar riffs.
4) ‘Dressed For Success” - LOOK SHARP
Foot stomping agressive pop rock - true Roxette
5) ‘Listen To Your Hear’ - LOOK SHARP
Americanised ballad in similar vein to the likes of Chicago.
6) ‘Dangerous” - LOOK SHARP
Written for and rejected by Don Johnson ( fool ) , again aggressive rock feel.
7) ‘It Must Have Been Love’ - TOURISM ( 1992 )
One of the best ballads ever written ( better version on TOURISM ).
8) ‘Joyride’ - JOYRIDE ( 1991 )
Finger tapping sing along . Fantastic chorus .
9) ‘ Fading Like A Flower’ - JOYRIDE
Powerful ballad , detailing that 1st love.
10) ‘The Big L’ - JOYRIDE
What Roxette call ‘bubblegum music’, summertime rock.
11) ‘Spending My Time’ - JOYRIDE
Nostalgic ballad , real moody which makes it .
12) ‘How Do You Feel’ - TOURISM
Punchy and gritty . Great rock .
13) ‘Almost Unreal’ - N/A ( Super Mario Bros. Soundtrack ) ( 1993 )
One of my all time favourites . All about love and its feelings .
14) ‘Sleeping In My Car’ - CRASH BOOM BANG ( 1994 )
Fast paced rock with great drums and guitar .
15) ‘Crash Boom Bang’ - CRASH BOOM BANG
Looking back at life and love , and its associated troubles . Great ballad.
16) ‘Vulnerable’ - CRASH BOOM BANG
Sheer poetry . One for lovers everwhere . Ballad.
17) ‘She Doesn’t Live Here Anymore’ - N/A ( 1995 )
Back to that bubblegum rock . So inspiring.
18) ‘I Don’t Want To Get Hurt’ - N/A ( 1995 )
Great strings , to a heartfelt ballad about heartbreak and hurt.
Ok ,so thats the tracks , but what about the inlay ? Well as with all Roxette inlays , you won’t be let down . 24 sides containing images and the songs lyrics , with some background notes by the members themselves, which makes for some interesting reading.
Overall a great mixture of styles on one great value money CD . 18 songs , over 70 minutes of play time . Who can complain . Their must be a least one song here that everyone will like , and well worth purchasing , especially as a first album of this group
Summary: sharp as when first heard - some great tracks

collingwood21 - 07/10/05 I used to quite like Roxette when I was in school, but I don't think I like them enough now to actually buy this CD. |
