Premium Review Don't Call Me Names - Guano Apes: German rock at its greatest! (649 words)

For those of you who don't already know, Guano Apes are one of the most successful and talented German bands of the last few years, which is probably not something that's difficult to achieve. What competition have they got? Well, Rammstein I guess. They have harsh songs with disgusting lyrics, but most of these songs have been banned completely - not that the majority of Brits would understand them anyway, as they sing in German. Guano Apes on the other hand write about things which are not so controversial and they sing in English and are therefore a lot more open to the English audience. They are: Sandra Nasic - singer Dennis Poschwatte - ...

GUANO = the droppings of sea birds or a synthetic product of similar composition. APES = Well I think we all know that one This is a German band that sings in English. It has four members who are all male (Stephan Ude, Dennis Poschwatta and Henning Rumenapp) apart from Sandra Nasic who is the vocalist. They have so far made two albums, ‘Proud Like a God’ and ‘Don’t Give Me Names’. 1: Innocent Greed (3:49) The quick flash of drums and heavy guitar welcome you to the album. The distant cry of Sandra’s voice echoes like an instrument and then the lyrics start. When the chorus starts Sandra is both backing and ...

Brilliant ? that is how I would generally describe the second album ('Don't Give Me Names') from the young German band, Guano Apes. If you haven?t heard them before, don?t be put off by their European origins. Music itself is an international language, however the band writes and sings exclusively in English, and you wouldn?t know it wasn?t their native tongue from listening to them. Indeed, they put my GCSE German skills to shame! I first heard the Guano Apes several years ago on an MTV rock show (a rare thing nowadays), and instantly liked them. Their songs have a heavy style to them, with some great metal riffs that provide excellent ...

The Silent Enigma: The Definitive Edition - Anathema

The Machinery Of Oblivion - Arcane Order
Aggressive death metal without sounding forced. Clearly derivative of Gothenburg bands.

Superabundance - Young Knives
Pop - 2008

Suffer - Bad Religion
Defined the Southern Californian punk rock sound. Songs are fairly similar.

Revolution Calling - Queensryche

March Of The Saint - Armored Saint
Classic heavy metal with great vocals. Lacking in ideas and incredibly derivative.

A Beautiful Lie - 30 Seconds to Mars
great songs that have great lyrics and some great vids for some 1 or 2 weak points

Greatest Hits - Skepta
Couple of decent tracks Typical Grime, nothing special

Downhearted - Charon
More "metal" than HIM. Sick-bag not included.

Chapters - Amorphis
A better collection than 'Story.' Suffers from the same drawbacks as that earlier release.
