Advantages: Funny, 14 Songs
Disadvantages: Some quite similar
Let me start by saying this is probably the best album I have. If you like punk rock then this is definitely better than Blink 182, Sum 41 or maybe even The Offspring. Green Day have 5 albums, this one being a close best to Nimrod. This is definite 5 stars, and I can't believe all the people that say Green Day or this album is overrated. It is the only album I can put in my CD player and play on random, without having to skip any of the tracks. This is a massive 14 track album, and is going to take me a while to review! The lyrics are funny, some of the songs are similar, but all are original is some way. I'm going to try something I haven't done before with CD reviews, I'll write a line or two about each song and give it a mark out of 10. 1. Burnout Nice fast song to start the album, not particularly impressing melody, but interesting drumbeat and vocals. 8/10 2. Having A Blast Nice little guitar sequence to start of the song. Then come in the bass and drums in the verse building up to some really good vocals in the chorus. 9/10 3. Chump Electric guitar and drums mainly in this song. Most of the song isn't that good, but there is a really good instrumental towards the end that makes up for it. I really like Green Day instrumentals and 'Last Ride In' on Nimrod is one of my favourite Green Day songs. 8/10 4. Long View Nice drum intro at the beginning, leading into an even better guitar riff. Song is slow and quite at the start so you can hear the vocals well. Switches between quiet and loud a lot, something I don't usually like, but it works here. 9/10 5. Welcome To Paradise Excellent song. Combines all my favourite things, great vocals, an instrumental, and a quite nice guitar riff. You look forward to the cry of 'Dear Mother' after the instrumental you can count he bars down. A really big build up to it, building up speeding up to a drum roll. A
definite favourite. 10/10 6. Pulling Teeth Nice guitars chords, Green Day sound more like an American Blur in this song. Really funny lyrics, including, 'Accidents will happen, but this time I can't get up' . Apart from that a pretty average song, still great though. 8/10 7. Basket Case Cool, but quiet guitar chords, allow you to hear the funny vocals, with taps on the cymbals building up to the drum roll, and the start of the 'loud' bit. This song has the best lyrics on the album. 10/10 8. She Nice bass line. The vocals are the best bit of this song. 8/10 9. Sassafras Roots Starts with a great little drum piece and has a catchy guitar tune. Not the best lyrics, gets rather repetitive. A happy, jumpy song. 9/10 10. When I Come Around Starts with the guitar, a few taps on the cymbals and in come the drums. A lovely little pause it the drums before the chorus and the line 'When I come around'. Again another jumpy song. One of my favourites on this album. 9/10 11. Coming Clean A fast and short song, with some interesting lyrics. The album is all about what it was like to be a teenager, and this song has the line 'Mom and Dad will never understand'. Not the best song though. 7/10 12. Enemus Sleepus Another short and strange song, only 1:44 long. The best bit is the quiet second verse, with some interesting vocals. 13. In The End I like this song because, it?s one of only a few fast songs on this album. It has a nice little pause in the drums just before the chorus, which I really like. 9/10 14. F.O.D Completely quiet for the first two verses, with only vocals and guitar. In the second chorus the drums come in, and the song becomes a lot more lively. Has one of my favourite lines from the whole album 'Let's nuke the bridge we torched 200 times before'. The funniest song on the album because of the bonu
s part of the song that only starts after a minute or two of silence after the main song. Basically it has really geekish vocals just repeated 'I was all by myself a lot'. Conclusion A really great album. I got it in a 2 for £15 deal and Virgin Megastores, so at £7.50 it isn't expensive for 14 songs. Would highly recommend to any punk rock fan. My favourite songs are, Long View Welcome To Paradise F.O.D. Thanks for reading. dodidle
