Advantages: catchy
Disadvantages: cheesy pop
Aqua are one of my preferred pop acts and this release gave them a second number one hit single when it was released in the early part of 1998, seems so long ago now!
Who are they:
Scandinavian pop group, made up of Rene and Lene on vocals and Claus and Soren on the keyboards. The latter two write and produce the material.
On this release:
You get the radio edit of the stunning song, it is a homage to Indiana Jones and is carried off with a tongue and cheek style. Lene's vocals sound exuberant and bright and Rene's rap is more accomplished than on the previous release. The song allows for some casual interplay between the two and the chemistry works very well.
Much in the same vein as 'Barbie Girl' it is a bubblegum pop effort, catchy hooks and a chorus which gets stuck in the head. The production is crisp and cannot be faulted.
The CD comes with a remix from dance producers Metro, who turn in a more dancefloor friendly version, which still retains the vocals from the radio edit.
Artwork:
Great cover artwork, pictures the group together looking most pleased with themselves!
Overall:
Spread over a two CD set, this was a worthy release, better than their debut and still fun to hear every once in a while.
Summary: good fun
