Dream Evil are a somewhat overrated power metal band, owing their style more to classic 1980s heavy metal than their power metal contemporaries, but their debut release still bears traces of the more modern sound that is sorely lacking on later albums. I tend to think of this album as a superior version of Hammerfall, as it's just as cheesy while managing to effectively balance it out with sheer enjoyment. The riffs and choruses are so catchy, it doesn't even matter that Niklas Isfeldt is singing about dragons and the glory of heavy metal.
