We Love Kylie (Limited Edition)Hate Dannii Now? Well, Love Kylie Instead (368 words)
by benlepensive - written on 12/10/09 (Very useful, 21 readings)
For those of us who do love Kylie we have probably gone out and bought the genuine article, real Kylie albums. For those of us who love Kylie so much we will buy anything with her name plastered on it, there exists this intriguing CD bundle, lots and lots of Kylie covers performed by the Almighty Showgirls. The album has three CDs and one of the discs contains a special megamix with loads of the tracks blended together. But is it really any good, or a waste of a tenner? 'Can't Get You Outta My Head' was dancey to begin with, the new version adds a slightly bouncier bassline and beefs it up further with an electro twist, surprisingly good and the vocals are on fine form too so ...
Almighty: Ultimate Dance Party Vol. 2Come Into My Party Of Covers (319 words)
by benlepensive - written on 06/10/09 (Very useful, 16 readings)
The Almighty series gives us this rather interesting chap, a forty nine track album bursting at the seams with camp and cheesy party music. There are some covers on here so approach with caution! The CDs have been blended into megamixes which means the tracks all flow into each other. On the first disc be sure to check out Hannah Jones doing 'You Only Have To Say You Love Me.' Hannah is a stalwart of the dance scene and brings a soulful edge to the song, while the cheesy backing track lifts the mood. Next, head to Jackie O as she does a reasonable cover of West End's 'The Love I Lost.' She doesn't quite have the range of Sybil, but manages to carve out a keen vocal performance ...
Almighty: Ultimate Dance PartyDodgy Covers Alert: Number 5,678 (352 words)
by benlepensive - written on 06/10/09 (Very useful, 20 readings)
What could be more thrilling than 150 minutes worth of camp high nrg disco pop anthems, spread over two CDs? Well I could think of numerous things actually, but the Almighty camp have proudly delivered this beast of an album full of covers and tracks to entice you into a party mood. All the songs have been crafted into megamixes, which means they blend in to each other is a seamless fashion. It starts with a nice weak version of the Degrees Of Motion song 'Do You Want It Right Now,' succeeding in zapping all the energy from the original and reducing it to a bland cover. Up next is a dodgy cover of Will Young's 'Leave Right Now' by Deja Vu. Always a bleak song, it fails to get off ...
