... into teenage angst, love, and the duality of that with having fun and such. It balances comedy and serious issues quite well. The best song on the album is probably Dammit, which is about growing up and how people hate doing it but ultimately it's a rite of passage and things usually work out for the best this way. It's ironic hearing this from a band who quite rightly pride themselves on being juvenile and in a stage of arrested development, so perhaps they're being ironic. It's one of their best songs in their enti...more

Premium Review Dude Ranch - blink-182: Dude ranch (435 words)

Blink 182: Dude Ranch: As I am a Blink 182 Fan I Know practically every track word for word. I think that the tracks on this album are not as good as the ones on Enema of The State or Take off Your Pants and Jacket... Pathetic: I mainly only play this song when some-one has annoyed me over something stupid because it is Pathetic. I love the drum beat in this song. Voyeur: Great guitar tune but the beat is a little too much for it. Dammit: I love the pace of the lyrics in this song it really tops it off from the beat and tune. Boring: funny because I only listen to this song when im bored or im ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review A great debut effort (348 words)

I don't think that Dude Ranch is as refined or as catchy as their most famous effort, Enema Of The State, but that's hardly surprising considering it was made in 1997 and was thus just as the band were really finding their feet. This album is characterised by a stark difference to what would become Blink's signature sound - this is a lot more rough around the edges and quite gritty considering its low production values. Like the albums that followed, though, it does have the same themes - it is very much concerned with going into teenage angst, love, and the duality of that with having fun and such. It balances comedy and serious issues quite well. The best ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Dude Ranch - blink-182: When It All Started To Fall Into Place (955 words)

Many people may not have recognised Blink 182 until their highly successful album in 1999 called "Enema of the State". But I can guarantee you that 15-track "Dude Ranch" set the ball rolling for the band that some call the pop-punk kings. Many did not have a clue who Blink 182 were when this album was released but for the few who purchased the album they were stunned by the amazing quality of this album. With funny noises after a few of the songs on this album it was bound to be a winner. And it was. Highly recommended by fans and by golly it's good. The front cover and inlay are interesting and the scene is a cowboy town. All ...  Read the complete review

What made Blink 182 famous? Was It 'Enema Of the State'? No. It was a little single from this album which rocketed sky high. That single is known to everyone as 'Dammit'. It made this album Blink 182 famous, 2 years before 'Enem Of The State'. However the single was only really big in America. Over here they remained relativly unknown. That is until the relese of 'Enema', but that's not what i am here to write about. I am here to tell you all about 'Dude Ranch' and some of the amazing songs on it. (well actually they are all amazing!!) First i will write a track listing then a review of each song. 1 : Pathetic 2 : ...  Read the complete review

Following on from the 1994/5 release of "Cheshire Cat" on Cargo Records, impressive sales meant that the unassuming San Diego trio of Mark Hoppus, Scott Raynor and Tom DeLonge meant that blink-182 finally got themselves signed to a major label, MCA. Unofficially the band's fourth album (Flyswatter/Buddha/Cheshire Cat all before this), "Dude Ranch" soon started stirring up some interest in the US Billboard Chart with the single releases of "Dammit" and "Josie". Rumours of this "new" energetic band began to emerge and by word-of-mouth in the majority, recommendations turned into sales; setting up the band for ...  Read the complete review
