I don't think that Dude Ranch is as refined or as catchy as their most famous effort, Enema Of The State, but that's hardly surprising considering it was made in 1997 and was thus just as the band were really finding their feet. This album is characterised by a stark difference to what would become Blink's signature sound - this is a lot more rough around the edges and quite gritty considering its low production values. Like the albums that followed, though, it does have the same themes - it is very much concerned with going into teenage angst, love, and the duality of that with having fun and such. It balances comedy and serious issues quite well.
The best song on the album is probably Dammit, which is about growing up and how people hate doing it but ultimately it's a rite of passage and things usually work out for the best this way. It's ironic hearing this from a band who quite rightly pride themselves on being juvenile and in a stage of arrested development, so perhaps they're being ironic. It's one of their best songs in their entire catalogue, so I almost wish that it had been remastered since, but to the same end, its rough differentiates it from when Blink "made it" with their next album and were allowed a clean and robust production. The song, through its form, in fact shows how they've grown up, or at least moved on and progressed through life.
Another very good song is called Apple Shampoo - despite a bland, strange title, it's got a great melody, and whilst it's quite difficult to decipher what on Earth the song is about, I really like it as a simple piece of heavy punk above all else!
This isn't their best album by far, but it's still a great effort for a band that clearly produced it on a shoestring budget. This is a massive achievement considering, and obviously helped to propel them to fame thanks to its very catchy hooks and riffs. Great stuff.
Dude Ranch by Blink 182 is one of the many fantatsic albums released and I really do think it is an excellent one. The album was released in June 2007 and the songs are of a very similar style to other Blink 182 albums. I bought this album for £10 from HMV but you can now get it for just £4 from Amazon which really is an amazing price for an album of this quality.
The album features 15 great tracks with many hits including "Dammit" which has a great guitar riff, excellent drumming throughout and a very catchy chorus that will have you dancing! "Pathetic" is another great track amongst many others in this album which has a great melody throughout and a very upbeat rythm. I really like the style of the music in this album and I really think it is just as good as previous releases. Another thing I really like about this album is that it is mainly written by Mark Hopper and Tom Delong themselves and soo the music contains some excellent lyrics.
I really do think that this is an excellent album, although like many other Blink 182 albums the music does sound quite similar throughout but I don't mind. I have also noticed that the songs are slightly longer now with an average of about 3 minutes in length. I hope this was useful and thank you very much for reading!
Dude ranch by blink 182 was the first full studio album by the band. It was released in 1997 and sprung them to fame in the punk pop, punk rock scene.
The only thing I don't over like about this album is that all the tracks aren't that good quality, however they did release a greatest hits later on which had all the best songs re-done, which I think ill review later.

I think either dammit or Josie have to be my favourite songs off the album, I think they have great lyrics, great instrumentals and above all there quite upbeat and have fast tempos.
This album seems to be full of a lot of songs that aren't honestly that great, but I do like a few songs on here, and I think it showed blink 182's potential and that's what led them onto making better albums in the future. Altogether it's a good album, and a must have if you're a blink 182 fan.
I told a friend recently that "Dude Ranch" was, in my opinion, the greatest of Blink's albums. They scoffed at me, and asked me if I was mad!
But I do genuinely feel this album has something special... something raw that the later albums could never quite get back. Yes, the production quality is extremely poor. Yes, the drumming is nothing like Travis Barker's. But the songwriting is strong. There's a healthy dose of sophomoric humour (that is, toilets, girls underwear and urine) and some excellent guitar playing. There's something anthemic feeling about the first and last tracks on this album. "Pathetic" just races along with a superb double-time feel as Tom and Mark half sing, half shout for vocal supremacy.
Other highlights of the album include the single "Dammit"and "Waggy" - the latter of which includes one of my favourite lines in a song ever - "Watching your house slip away in my rear view mirror as I drive away, wishing that I could take back all those words that meant nothing that I didn't say". Perfect for the angsty teenager and wonderfully expressed. "Lemmings" is another fantastic track - again, the drums just thunder through it with the double time feel.
If you're into highly polished, slick pop-punk, then check out "Enema of the State" - another great album of Blink's. But if you're hungry for something raw, rough, ready, fast and furious, than Dude Ranch is the place to go. It's cool, it's summery, it's almost like a soundtrack to a young teenage lad's slightly sad, but ultimately fantastic, teenage years.
Blink 182: Dude Ranch:
As I am a Blink 182 Fan I Know practically every track word for word.
I think that the tracks on this album are not as good as the ones on Enema of The State or Take off Your Pants and Jacket...
Pathetic: I mainly only play this song when some-one has annoyed me over something stupid because it is Pathetic. I love the drum beat in this song.
Voyeur: Great guitar tune but the beat is a little too much for it.
Dammit: I love the pace of the lyrics in this song it really tops it off from the beat and tune.
Boring: funny because I only listen to this song when im bored or im with some one I find boring. I love the bass line in this song because I can actually hear it and it is amazing.
Dick Lips: Me and my friend love playing this song we listen to it all the time. I love the drum beats in this song it makes it totally awesome.
Waggy: Not so keen on this song to be fairly honest it could be better with the beat.
Enthused: I love the guitar tune at the start but when the fast beat comes in it wrecks the song a little but when it slows down it gets better.
Untitled: Again a bass line in this song that I love so much that I can't really explain I love it that much.
Apple Shampoo: I found the name of this song very weird and I thought it would be a weird song but it isn't I like it.
Emo: Being an Emo Myself I can honestly say that this really doesn't have anything to do with Emo's.
Josie: Great beat and rhythm it's a song I really got into I couldn't stop nodding my head or tapping my foot and it was getting on my nerves.
A new Hope: An ok song not good but ok.
Degenerate: BASS LINE AWESOM! Lyrics a little funny but it makes me laugh so I guess I love it.
Lemmings: Me and my friend love Lemmings so when we heard about this song we had to listen to it. We thought that it would be good but we were wrong it is excellent.
Im sorry: Drums and guitar tune are amazing and to make it better the lyrics are perfect.
blink-182's Dude Ranch is, in my opionion, one of the best albums ever prodcuced. blink-182 got really big in 1999 but this was their best music. It has a more punk sound than most of thier well known albums. This is similar their earliest albums, for you old blink fans. If you are a fan of blink-182, I would strongly recommend this one. It would really be worthy of every penny you spen on it.
Hiya ppl! I just have 2 say that blink182 rule and that the album dude ranch kickz ass!Im sure all blink fans wld agree with me! My favourite songs on the album include, Degenerate, apple shampoo, voyeur, damnnit and untitled.Although all of them are really kool. Dude ranch is defently more punk than their later albums eg. enema of the state. If you prefer more punkish stuff dude ranch is he blink album for you!Undoubtably, blink182 after nearly 10 years are still the best band eva , bye hope u liked my opinion lv yaz luv ezo xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
The title is an opinion in itself, not only that but it speaks volumes of how much better they are than anybody else. Dude Ranch is not only an excellent album, its also funny. Its not only funny because of songs like 'voyeur' and 'degenerate', between some of the songs are funny clips (which are mark tlkin and sum other stuff). This album probably got blink182 the most notice with singles like Josie and Dammit. If your sat there wundrin why than u shud go and buy it 2 find out, but evn if your not u shud still go and buy it purely because its Blink182. Then after hearing Dude Ranch ppl were more encouraged 2 buy Enema Of The State when it wos released. Another good song off this album is Lemmings. A good line from this song is 'people are what they want 2 be, their not lemmings 2 the sea, maybe its time that u looked at your self, stop blaming life on sum 1 else.' I promise that if u even remotely like blink182 u will love this album.
Ah Blink-182, my favourite band of all time. I'm a big fan and I mean big. I even celebrate Mark Alan Hoppus' birthday every year! Well, although this isn't Blink-182's best album (I reserve that right for their insanely funny live record), it is definitely the best modern punk rock album ever made. Not since NOFX's punk in drublic amd Green Day's Dookie have I heard such an original album filled to the brim with amazing tunes and dirty riffs. to be true, this record beats the crpa out of both of those records. Clocking in at 15 tracks at 45 minutes long, this is one adrenaline fuelled ride. The pace never lets up- for crissakes- even the "ballads" sound fast! Opening track Pathetic is basically punk by numbers and there's nothing special about it. For me, it's the weakest track on the album and has a relatively weak tune. Next track Voyeur is amazing- the story of a guy spying on a girl changing makes me laugh all the time. Voyeur is unbelievably fast, loud without hurting your ears and is probably one of Blink-182's best tunes ever! Following track Dammit has earned classic status among fans and for me it is the punk song of the last decade. Not since Green Day's basket case have I heard such velocity, such a good tune and such feeling conveyed in one song. Other album highlights include the beach-bummed anthem that is Untitled (and what a strange title for a song!), Emo, Josie, Lemmings and I'm Sorry. Well every song is a classic on this album, apart from Pathetic, and each song has its own unique qualities. Not only does it have good tunes, but the record has farcical lyrics that are more in line with a stand-up comedy show! I wouldn't dare give you a sample here, for fear of being thrown off this site! Basically, if you're a Blink-182 fan you should already own this album. Forget Sum-41 and all the other unoriginal bands out there. Meet the true punks- Blin
k-182 are here to conquer your hearts and Uranus!
When I first bought Dude Ranch I didnt think it was all the good but now my opinions have changed, what an amazing album this is every track contains outstanding lyrics and guitar riffs. Each song has a different meaning and the music is not at all repetitive. This album is truly amazing and I recommend it to anyone, so get out there and buy it! Oh yes I also recmmend Tom Booths Dude Ranch, another great review! Once you buy this album you will want to buy the other 5 ( Take off Your Pants and Jacket, Buddha, Enema of The State, Tom, Mark and Travis Show and finally Chesire Cat.) I dont have time to finish this review but from the above you know what an amzing album it is.
"Dude Ranch" is a lot worse than "Enema of the State" or "Mark, Tom and Travis Show" but I still gave it five stars. Both mark and Tom's voice sound different but Tom's is really bad and creaky. The best song on the album is easily "Apple Shampoo". Don't be put off by the name it's a great song. Other songs like "Voyeur" and "Pathetic" are also pretty amazing. The guitars are heavier in this album than the others but this spoils the album because the tune is pushed into the background and the vocals are also worse. Catchy tunes and smart lyrics make this album what it is but this is the only their third album. When they lose there old drummer Scott Raynor and bring Travis Barker in they will get a 100 times better. The songs on the album are (appart from the songs I've metioned) "Dammit”, "Dick Lips”, "Boring”, "Waggy”, "Enthused”, "Untitled”, "Emo”, "Joise”, "A New Hope”, "Degenerate”, "Lemmings”, "I'm Sorry”.
Dude Ranch made me certainly a happy bunny, after starting with the newer and going back to its younger days, I was pleasantly suprised that the blink fellows made a more punky sound than there pop punk class they come into now ! dude ranch is a cd that all teenagers can relate to as it involves crude lyrics and topics they use in there songs. It may not be as clear to listen to as later cd's but it is more cleverly put together and its tracks make u want to carry on listening and just quietly cackle . Dammit is the song everyone wants to hear its very good its one blink must be very proud of , although travis is not in this album the previous drummer is every bit as good and does not in any way let the side down! Its a cd my collection needs for those depressing days to liven you up into an frenzy not To mention it has more tracks on it than I have ever seen on a blink album ! Last but not least this album is not to be taken with a grain of salt.
Many people may not have recognised Blink 182 until their highly successful album in 1999 called "Enema of the State". But I can guarantee you that 15-track "Dude Ranch" set the ball rolling for the band that some call the pop-punk kings. Many did not have a clue who Blink 182 were when this album was released but for the few who purchased the album they were stunned by the amazing quality of this album. With funny noises after a few of the songs on this album it was bound to be a winner. And it was. Highly recommended by fans and by golly it's good. The front cover and inlay are interesting and the scene is a cowboy town. All lyrics are writter inside the booklet so if you are still getting used to the album you can flick open the booklet and sing the lyrics to your heart's content. There are also some interesting captions which will get you laughing and in the mood for some Blink 182. ------ 1.Pathetic- The CD starts and you're getting extremely started. Strong guitars start playing and both Mark and Tom chip in with strong vocals. Exciting lyrics and great guitar and drums make this wicked song interesting. Chorus is great and Mark and Tom take it line by line. 9/10 2.Voyeur- Drums come in and Tom jumps in with vocals shortly followed by guitars. A real feel good song telling the song of a guy and is daily thoughts. Top class songwriting makes this nice. 8.5/10 3.Dammit- The undisputed king of this album. Some say this is the best Blink song ever and I must say it's probably one of my favourite songs. Every song tells a story and the chorus is calling out to you. I enjoy Tom shouting "Well I Guess This is Growing Up" and really it's hard to describe this masterpiece. Much better than "All The Small Things" or any of the other over-rated stuff. 10/10 4.Boring- Bass chips in and vocals come. This song's sung by Mark (
the bassist) and he does enjoy a good sing a long. Maybe not as good as the other stuff but hey, not every song can be great. 6/10 5.Dicklips- Probably one of the best three tracks, I recognise this from somewhere but I don't know where. I thought it was the first time I was listening to it but for some reason the lyrics just came to me straight away. Fantastic pop-punk tune. 9/10 6.Waggy- A bit dodgy but interesting chorus. With all these songs you gotta put a few down don't ya. Not the kabloom you get with songs like "Dammit" and "Dicklips". 6.5/10 7.Enthused- Guitars play the main role in this song but like the lyrics aswell. This is some of the strongest guitar playing on the album apart from the chorus on "Degenerate". There's a long wait until you get to the vocals but they stay interesting and gripping. 8.5/10 8.Untitled- I could easily name this song but they decided to not name this song. I guess with all the things going on they may not of thought of a title but maybe the like the word "untitled". Good change of pace during the song and Blink 182 do this extremely well. They can change fast punk song into a slow gripping ballad. 9/10 9.Apple Shampoo- Another one of my favourites. Vocals start the song off this time which is a good change. I don't know why but in the lyrics it says "..Getting tired of playing in punk rock bands and playing in punk rock clubs.." because they enjoy playing catchy pop punk. 7/10 10.Emo- This don't sound like emo to me but never-the-less this has yet more gripping lyrics and exciting guitar playing. This album is good! 8/10 11.Josie- Stronger guitars with angrier vocals making it a hard-hitting anthem.Chorus doesn't really impress me though. 7.5/10 12.A New Hope- Nice work boys. Really, really enjoy the chorus. Guitar'
;s stay fresh. Should call it Princess Leia I think. All the songs are completely done in their own way but for some reason and i can only come up with similar comments. Don't worry. 8.5/10 13.Degenerate- The change of pace in this song is amazing. It starts slowly and you think boring. Bring in the pumping guitars. Then suddenly out of nowhere comes super powerful lyrics and utterly shocking guitars. Mega rockin' punk rock anthem I think!!! 10/10 14.Lemmings- Boom, boom, I LOVE Blink 182! Lyrics remind me of life and sit down and relax. Excellent. 9/10 15.I'm Sorry- Rather slowed down last song to bring the album to a close. Rather appropiate I think but you can hear the tiredness in Tom's voice. 5/10 ------ Just because i gave no ratings under 5 does not mean i only give high ratings because believe me this is one of the best albums you're ever gonna hear in your life. Blink 182 really did it hear and i recommend you to go out and buy it right now. If you like Blink 182, you may also be interested in New Found Glory, Fenix TX, RX Bandits, Sum41 or Alkaline Trio. That's all I have to say, enjoy it while you can.
Having become hugely successful with 1999's Enema Of The State, a lot of people forgot (or didn't know about) the bands previous releases, but in particular Dude Ranch. Made in 1997 just before the bands original drummer, Scott Raynor left, this albums shows what the band eveolved from, when they made Enema Of The State. A lot of people have called this Hard, Raw,energetic punk, and i wouldn't disagree with them (mainly because they'd kick my ass), but also becuase they would be right if that is what they stated. This album is everything that the follow up wasn't, but threatened to be (even if the later album was the more successful!!). songs like 'Apple Shampoo' and 'Waggy' show the bands fast hardcore roots, while the likes of 'Dammit' show theire angst towards growing up (like many teenagers) and 'Degenerate' shows the bands hilariously funny side. Thisalbums showed the band threatening to get up on stage and make you break yourself to bits moshing, but never quite got that far. The singles released from this album are as followed (in no particular order) : 'Dammit (growing up)' 'Josie' and 'Apple Shampoo'. each is very hard to come by in the form of singles, each song is amazingly accurate and make you wanna jump around, (well that's how they make ME feel!!) Dammit in particular took the band quite a way in the Us, while not making much of an impact here in the uk. I believe that the best songs on this album are : 'Dammit' 'Waggy' 'Apple Shampoo' 'Josie' and 'Lemmings'. 'Lemmings' in particular is important to the band, telling the story (or at least explaining about) one of the bands former friends who expected everybody to follow him and do exactly as he did. The name is significant because that is what lemmings do, follow each other around, and fall off of cliffs to th
eir deaths. (at least says Mark). 'Dammit' was apparently written about a break up that never happened, and the lyrics were penned on the back of a napkin on valentines day, after Mark had watched Can't Hardly Wait (personal fave film), and was written in 5 minutes. 'Josie' was about the perfect girlfriend. The kind that would hang out with all your friends, laugh at your dumb jokes and bring you burritos from Sombrero. This was also written by Mark (i think) but is much better then 'Dammit'. 'Apple Shampoo', I don't actually know what this one was about, but the lyrics give it that sort of "this isn't working out so i think we should break up" feel to it...i don't know...great riffs though!! Well there we have it, my first opinion and i think, a brilliant one!!
What made Blink 182 famous? Was It 'Enema Of the State'? No. It was a little single from this album which rocketed sky high. That single is known to everyone as 'Dammit'. It made this album Blink 182 famous, 2 years before 'Enem Of The State'. However the single was only really big in America. Over here they remained relativly unknown. That is until the relese of 'Enema', but that's not what i am here to write about. I am here to tell you all about 'Dude Ranch' and some of the amazing songs on it. (well actually they are all amazing!!) First i will write a track listing then a review of each song. 1 : Pathetic 2 : Voyeur 3 : Dammit (growing up) 4 : Boring 5 : Dick Lips 6 : Waggy 7 : Enthused 8 : Untitled 9 : Apple Shampoo 10 : Emo 11 : Josie 12 : A New Hope 13 : Degenerate 14 : Lemmings 15 : I'm Sorry Pathetic - This is a fast opener (well faster than the starters on 'Enema' and 'TOYPAJ' anyway) and is a great song. This is (i think) about breaking up with (or getting dumped by) someone, and trying to get them back, without any success. They just blow you off....repeatedly.... "i've done all i can but she still wants to be left alone" Voyeur - I haven't got a clue what to write about this one! I suppose it could be about going out with someone where you have to sneak around to see them, and / or they treat you badly.....only a suggestion! Not the best song on the album but still a good one to listen to when you are bored.... "I've made mistakes by looking in the wrong window, your dad is big and i have never seen his face" Dammit (growing up) - This is the smash hit that made Blink 182 popular in America, if not only a little bit over here in Europe. This is supposedly a song Mark writ in under 5 minutes about a break up that never actually happened!! That makes it cl
ear what the song is about if the lyrics are gettin ya!! Also this was one of the singles that was released on the album. (the other two were 'Josie' and 'Apple Shamppo' but i can't remeber which order they came out in!) "and maybe i'll see you, at a movie sneak preview, you'll show up, and walk by, on the arm of that guy" Boring - this is quite obviously about being with someone who you find boring and un-intellectual! Wanting to get out of the relatiosnship is the first thing on your mind, and you don't want to be with the person any more...they bore you to much! ""boring, alright misplaced your values, forgot the importance of being right" Dick Lips - This song was on the Live album but it was called 'rich lips' so that people wouldn't complain. great song, although not the best song on the album....pretty fast and some chugging guitars (not heavy, just fast). About when Tom (blink singer and guitarist) got kicked out of school when he was 15 for taking alchohol in to classes. If you read the lyrics you will see why that is the meaning. "remeber i'm a kid, i know not what i did" Waggy - This is my favourite track on the album (apart from 'Apple Shamppo') and is about wishing that you hadn't just let a break up happen between you and the one you love. Wishing that you had said something to change things....pretty slow compared to others. "wishing that i could take back all those words that meant nothing that i didn't say" Enthused - About dreaming about being with a girl that you like a lot while on drugs...that is what i get from the lyrics...sort of...that is probably the biggest load of bollocks i have ever written!! oh well.... "am i srungout, crazy or not allowed to be the one who gets crazy over you" Untitled - I haven't got a clue why the name of this is 'Untitled'
. Maybe they couldn't think of a name and just went with that! who knows!! Great song with some great guitars and singing...i think that this one is about going out with someone who is younger than you, then breaking it off because of the age.....possible?? "i think of a while ago, we might have had it all" Emo - This song is called 'Emo' because when the boys wrote it, it sounded like an emo song (emo is a style of music), and it just stuck. So when they played in the studio, and the ywanted to play it they said, oh yeah lets play that emo song again. That is the truth! i read on the net somewhere....it was a direct qoute from Mark (blink 182 singer, bassist). "one more time you ill laugh about it, and he'll never try and give you more" Josie - This one, once again, is about a girl that none of the band actually ever dated!! it is completely made up (i think!) Great song, and my third fave on the album! "yeah my girlfriend takes me home when i'm to drunk to drive, and she doesn't get all jealous when i hang out with the guys" A New Hope - The name 'A New Hope' is actually the name of the music which is played when the words are scrolling up the screen at the beginning of Star Wars. The band loved the name, so the yused it. This is actually a song all about Star Wars, which isn't surprising considering the name of the song!! "and of course i'd do anything for her, i'd search the moons of Endor..." Degenerate - this is a comedy track (which there seems to be many of on any given Blink 182 album) and has no meaning!! it is quite funny though!! "crossed the street, naked at night, bend over to show some moonlight..." Lemmings - This is about a friend Mark used to have who wanted everyone to follow him and do whatever he did. Lemmings as you may know are creatures that follow each other around ad fall off cliffs to
gether. "but people are what they want to be, not lemmings to the sea. I'm sorry - This is a slow song compared to the rest on the album, and is one of the amazing ones. The title tells you all really, doesn't it! this is also the longest song, and carries over a long high pitched sound and then Mark going to the toilet, then getting a dog to drink out of the toilet bowl before flushing it. "don't bide your time, because it is almost over, i know your down and i'll see you around" Also on this album, inside the sleeve is some hilarious pictures of Tom Mark andScott dressed up in cowboy costumes doing some pretty funny stuff, and coaught in some pretty rude positions, with the lyrics scrolling round in squares outwards.
