What must be one of the greatest flops in Hollywood history has in the intervening 20 years become a cult favorite of many. David Lynch's Dune was one of those instances where a director had a vision of an epic rendering of a beloved sci-fi classic, but ended up getting an incohesive and mutilated edit of a story that nobody liked. Lynch reportedly shot something like six hours of material but had to edit it down over and over again to something like three hours, after which the film was in shambles.
