Wings To Fly & A Place To Be - Nanci Griffith

would have unplugged... They weren't, so I didn't, having only popped to the nearest shops. - BIG MISTAKE! I would have liked to re-post my Nanci Griffith quote when children were taunting children in Belfast... Instead, I re-post it following the horrors of 11 September 2001. The following opinion is unchanged but I first repeat the quote from "It's a Hard Life": “Doctor Martin Luther King Junior taught us that there are no bad babies born upon the face of this earth. All babies are born good. It’s what we give them in love, what we teach them in education and what we lend to them in trust that they will return to us in ...

Now, I don't really like country music - but Nanci Griffith is just something else entirely? In no time I was singing along to all of these songs. "Last of the true believers" is one of her earlier albums, dating back to the time when she was grouped with Lyle Lovett and kd lang as 'new country'. And there was (and still is) something fresh and original about her music. The opening title track, is a catchy song, reminding us of Griffith's Texas roots. Another song with a strong sense of place, and traveling, is "The Wing and the wheel". Then there are songs like "Love at the five and dime", which tell stories about ...
Other Voices Too - Nanci Griffith

Rating:
VERY LOUDLY… There are so many artists on these recordings that I cannot possibly credit everyone (though I fully intend to mention my particular favourites!) - Nanci Griffith is ever present but frequently sings backing vocals, rather than lead. - I suggest that you run out and buy this CD immediately, then you can read the cover notes for yourselves! 1. Wall of Death (Words and Music by Richard Thompson) A powerful folk/near-rock number kicks off the album with a wake-up call urging us to live life to the full. I was never brave enough for the wall of death (and my best roller-coaster days are probably behind me), nonetheless I love this message. ...

Soulful playing, enjoyable and easy to listen to, plus it's SRV!
Minor thing with album sleeve, barely worth mentioning.

Noel - Josh Groban
Some beautiful songs
None
New Wave - Against Me
Highly energised, tightly packed slab of contemporary rock, with no indie influence in sight.
Relies on older styles as much as it forsakes the modern.
Made Of Bricks - Kate Nash
Some of the tracks are catchy
An extremely irritating album packed full of fillers
Hand Built By Robots - Newton Faulkner
A nice relaxed, chilled out album for all occasions
Girl - Dannii Minogue

Awake - Josh Groban
More English language, making of DVD
none!
All Hallows Ep - AFI
Three high quality, totally unique songs (and one quite good Misfits cover).
Irritating interludes.
