Advantages: HoP back from the dead ! , Awesome album, Every track fully playable

Disadvantages: None

I got this album ages ago, i'd heard Black Jesus and couldn't believe it was Everlast, back from the dead, (well House of Pain anyway)! I was seriously into HoP when they first appeared on the scene about 12-13 years ago. The only track most people have ever heard is "Jump Around", which although is an excellent tune, it never did the band justice, as thay did so many superior tracks !

I still listen to my old HoP tapes, (Yep, i said tapes not CD's), and still find them great to listen to without them seeming dated ! (The sign of a quality band is often the timeless aspect of the music they produce!).

Eric Shroder, or Everlast as he likes to be called, disappeared off the scene for almost a decade only doing occasional stints with the likes of Cypress Hill, then he came back with this most astounding album, Eat at Whiteys !

I'm not gonna go into every track and monotonously list every track and describe them. I'm going to do that with a few but i want to give an overall feel to the album !

When listening to the album the listener is pleasantly suprised to hear a large variety of different orchestral instruments, acoustic guitar and the awesome singing voice of the man himself. Each and every track is a delight to listen to and takes the listener to some far away better place.
Some of the tracks have included work by the legendary Carlos Santanna, whose acoustic guitar expertise brings tracks literally to life !

Black Jesus is a perfect example of the quality of songs on the album, the lyrics are fantastic and Everlast sings with all his usual might as the slow guitar beats are accompanied by a drumline straight out of New Orleans ! I wouldn't say this is a soul album nor would i say it fits into any particular category of music but even as a metal fan i find myself returning to it time after time.

The few tracks following Black Jesus are all wonderfuly done love songs and aga
in are performed expertly by Everlast. I swear this guy could make any music sound awesome with his graverly tones and note perfect voice.

Deadly assassins is a blast from the past as our House of Painer gets together with B'Real from the Hill for a nostalgic blast from the past, (old skool styley), and is followed by a very entertaining song called Children's Story, this is a more lively song and is welcome at this point in the album. I also swear down it has Eric Cartman saying he wants to hear a bedtime story at the beginning of the tune. It reminds me very much of an old HoP song called "It Aint A Crime" but like i said, i bet no ones ever heard anything else HoP did ?

The 9 remaining tracks on the album are simply superb, they are laid back, relaxing, musically perfect and have real heart and soul put into them, i even shed a tear or two when listening to Mercy On My Soul, it was that profound and moving, erm, actually i sobbed my way through several of the last few. i'm not a soft arse, but music like this really touches me !

To sum up, coz i don't want this to be a mega long yawny review:

Everlast has come a long way from his HoP days, i'd like to think he's matured like a good wine.

Eat at Whiteys is a must for any music lovers collection no matter what you're into.

This is an amazing album in it's own right as all the tracks are very playable and roll on beautifully.

It's as easy to listen to as the crashing waves on a beach at night in a favorite holiday location with a lover of you're choice. Not a bad occasion for it come to think of it !?

Good Stuff

The disturbed one !
