Advantages: Seven Days in the Sun is a wonderful summer song
Disadvantages: Some duff tracks, but hey, you can't have it all
"Echo Park" was one of the first albums I ever bought - more than 7 years ago now. I have listened to, and enjoyed it, consistently since then.
The song "Buck Rogers" really seemed to be the break-through for this band. They'd been around for many years beforehand, but had often gone unnoticed. Buck Rogers was originally penned by the lead singer, Grant, for another band. When the record label heard the song, they assured him it would be a big hit and encouraged him to record it with his own band, rather than lose it to someone else. It did the trick. "Seven Days in the Sun" soon followed - another healthy slice or high energy, Brit-pop-rock, with another fantastic sing-a-long chorus. Incidentally, the abrupt end of "Seven Days in the Sun" is one of my favourite endings to a song... ever!
Other highlights of the album include the slower, more reflective "Satellite" - a plaintiff ballad that is almost beautiful. "Piece by Piece" is another wonderful "quiet" song to enjoy. The song "We Can't Rewind" inspired a friend and I to write a theatrical play in our teenage boys about the death of a close friend. If I say so myself, Feeder's song fitted the play's soundtrack rather nicely!
All in all, a very listenable and enjoyable album. Nothing outstanding about it (I wouldn't group it with the "Greatest Albums of All Time") but it is consistent in it's rockiness and poppiness.
Summary: Brit-rock at it's best. I find I can listen all the way through without needing to skip any tracks
