Advantages: Excellent album, Just gets better
Disadvantages: none
To match the excellence of Swim was always going to be difficult. But then Polythene was no ordinary record, it was voted album of the year by Metal Hammer in 1997. Oh and then they released Yesterday went too Soon which is thought by many, including me, to be even better. With a track record like that how could they possibly keep up that sort of consistancy. Surely Grant Nicholas & Co. must slip up some time, and the question is "Has Echo Park broken Feeder's winning trend?" In a word, no. In truth Echo Park could well be their best album to date. With the new cult/mainstream classic Buck Rogers and the soon to be released "Seven Days in the Sun" the record is immediately very easy to get into. And yet it possess so much more depth that those 2 songs. In Feeder's new cater for everyone policy tracks like "Tell all your Friends" and "We can't Rewind" seem to encapsulate the brilliance of "Cement" "Waiting for Changes" and "Insomnia". While other tracks like "Bug" "Choke" and "Under the Weather" hark back to heavier beats like "Sweet 16" "Crash" and "StereoWorld". If there is a critism of the album it's a little harder to get into the tracks than YWTS at the start, but like Polythene the songs grow on you until you're screamin "I'M IN CEMENT" or in the case of Echo Park's We Can't Rewind "THIS IS.....OUR TIME, WE CAN DO IT ANYWAY". Everything that made Swim, Polythene and YWST the classics they are has been brought together in Echo Park. There is literaly something for EVERYONE! from heavy Rock to light POP. If the Feeder boys had £1 for everytime this has been said they'd never need to work again, so that's probably a good thing, but if there was any justice Feeder would be one of the biggest bands in the world. Feeder makes better Pop songs than any one
out there at the moment, and some of the purer Rock songs on this new record will make Limp Bizkit look slow and pedestrian. Finally I would like to thank Taka Hirose, Jon Lee and Grant Nicholas for doing what they do. I always get worried when my favorite bands release new records incase they might disappoint. Thankfully all you Feeder fans need'ent worry, Echo Park rocks. Reserve your copy now, this just might be album of the year.

- 05/07/01 Good opinion, my fave songs on the album are Buck Rogers and Turn.
I also love the B-side to 7 day in the Sun, called Just a day.... if you haven't got the single buy it and check that song out. |
