ELO was the brainchild of ex-Move men Jeff Lynne and Roy Wood, but while Wood went off to form Wizard, Lynne kept up with the rock/classical group producing three low charting albums at the beginning of the 1970 s. By the time it came around for their sixth album in 1976 that all changed. Discovery was The E Electric Light Orchestra s first number one album in the UK and contains no less than five hit singles including Don t Bring Me Down and The Diary of Horace Wimp . I never really got into The Electric Light Orchestra until recently; maybe it s something about turning thirty. ELO have always been seen a deeply uncool, but then who really cares what anyone else thinks? Music is music and when it comes to Discovery it certainly is of the highest calibre. Jeff Lynne s writing on Discovery is exceptional. As an ELO fanatic, I bought all their albums, singles - which continued whenever I visited a car boot or specialist record outlet - which even meant importing one of their compilation albums simply called "Collection" from the USA. My reason for mentioning is that this was not one of the one's released during the time they were famous. I found, like many others I expect, that when a group is losing popularity or have stopped recording for a while that the record companies suddenly produce unknown works, or compilations to boost sales.
