Today Elvis Presley

I have had the Today Album for about 12 Yrs and I have Most of the Elvis Cds. I have a few pink (special edition) vinyl’s and about 10 box sets I am a great Elvis fan and I buy all of his Music. The Today album was one of the first albums I purchased on CD. It was bought in Falkirk when Our Price was in the town centre.

On the cover is a picture of Elvis in concert at around 1975. A black background with Elvis in a white jumpsuit with rhinestones and a yellow silk scarf round his neck

I first heard these songs undubbed on a bootleg CD called Yesterday-Today, from Bilko records. This album also included a great mix of TROUBLE and an alternate take of Susan When She Tried. Yesterday-Today is quite rare to purchase.

The version of the Today album that I have has only 10 tracks, I don’t know if there’s a new version with extra tracks like there is with the Promised Land album that was re-released a few years ago.

T-R-O-U-B-L-E

Written by Jerry Chestnut, who wrote five songs which Elvis recorded. TROUBLE, Woman Without Love, Never Again, Its Midnight and Love Coming Down. Elvis was just to learn another of Jerry songs when he died. This was called The Wonders You Perfom. I really love this song is it a great song to start the album off with.

And I Love You So

Written by Don McLean (American Pie). Don used the Jordanairs on his albums in the seventies. In the song American Pie Elvis is referred to.

But that's not how it used to be When the jester sang for the King and Queen
Bob Dylan Is the Jester.. There were several interpretations of who were the king and queen: some thought that Elvis was the king, which I think is obvious. The queen was said to be either Connie Francis or Little Richard.

Oh, and while the King was looking down the jester stole his thorny crown
This could be a reference to Elvis's declin

e and Dylan's ascent. (I.e., Presley is looking down from a height as Dylan takes his place.) The thorny crown might have been a reference to the price of fame. Dylan said that he wanted to be as famous as Elvis, as He was one of his early idols.

An alternate take of this can be found on 6363 Sunset Boulevard and The 50 Greatest Love Songs, I prefer the alternate take.

Susan When She Tried

Written by Don Reid I always thought this was a fun song. An alternate take can also be found on 6363 Sunset Boulevard.

Woman Without Love

See T-R-O-U-B-L-E for details.

Shake a Hand

A song about racial harmony, I think this is lyrically toned in with the Elvis song “If I Can Dream.

Pieces Of My Life

He recorded two albums as a '70s solo artist and played guitar on many famous sessions, but Troy Seals is best known as a country songwriter. During the '70s, he recorded with Doug Kershaw and Lonnie Mack, and released an album each for Atlantic and CBS as well. His hit compositions include "Rattle the Windows" (Shenandoah), "I Won't Need You Anymore (Always & Forever)" (Randy Travis), "Don't Take It Away" (Conway Twitty), among others. Elvis has sung both Shake a Hand and Pieces of my Life live and these recordings have appeared on bootlegs.

Fairytale

Song by Anita & Bonnie Pointer, also known as the pointer sisters. I really like this song- his voice is really bitter in it.( angry)

I Can Help

Written by Billy Swan Billy Swan has been through just about every area of the music business, gaining experience, paying his dues and inching his way up with every step. He's written songs, swept up recording studios, played with 3-piece combos in local beer joints, produced albums and toured with some top performers.
Now Swan has established himself as a recording artist with far reaching
international appeal. His initial hit single "I Can Help" sold over one million copies in Europe and over two million worldwide. Swan's debut Monument album was also entitled "I Can Help" received outstanding critical acclaim internationally along with the single.

"I try to keep my options open for all kinds of music," says Billy. "I just get a groove going and don't worry about any particular style."
On his way up, Billy has been exposed to some very good music. When Bob Dylan was recording his classic "Blonde On Blond" album in Nashville, Billy was working in the same recording studio, emptying the ashtrays. He made his debut as a record producer with Tony Joe White, cutting "Polk Salad Annie," and he was an original member of Kris Kristofferson's band.

Billy Swan was born in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, a small town on the banks of the Mississippi River, on May 12. An interest in music was kindled by Hank Williams on the radio, by an uncle who played the saxophone, and by singing cowboy Gene Autry in the movies.

"The rock & roll of Jerry Lee Lewis and Buddy Holly made me want to start playing it myself," says Billy, who took up the drums at age 14 and hitchhiked to gigs in local beer joints. He later taught himself to play electric piano, rhythm guitar and organ.

Some friends who had a group went to Memphis to record with Bill Black, so Billy tagged along. Black liked one of Billy's songs, "Lover Please". The group recorded it but it wasn't until much later, when Clyde McPhatter cut his version of the song that it became a hit. While he was in Memphis, Billy lived with Elvis Presley's uncle. An alternate take appears on Yesterday Today.

Bringin’ It Back
Written by Greg Gordon. This is a slow sentimental song. An alternate take/false start appears on the 6363 Sunset Boulevard album. Don’t know if thi
s was sung
live?

Green, Green Grass of Home
Recorded 10 March 75. Originally Elvis heard Tom Jones’ version wile driving in his car, requesting the local radio station to play it over and over again. The song is about a man who is about to get executed the following day. This song was regularly performed live in Las Vegas shows.

This album can still be bought or ordered in most music outlets and priced about £10.

ELVIS
His songs were brill
He looked so great
Every girl wishing he was their date
With his twisted smile
And thick dark hair
He was so good looking it wasn’t fair
He had it all tallent, charm and looks
On his Music I am hooked
Young or old it doesn’t matter
For us he always had the Patter
He cuddled, kissed and threw his scarves
Do I think he’s great Oh! Yes! Not! Arf!

I hope yiou enjoyed the read
