Advantages: Great if your one of these who "likes a bit of everything"

Disadvantages: everything you can think of that could ever be wrong with indie music

oooooh........... i predict a rant, a rant about this boring band, bland enough to put you off indie for life!!!

The Kaiser chiefs debut record 'Employment' should not be aloud anywhere near the indie section in any self respecting record store, they stand for crude corporate buisness and not alot else. Come on people, cant you see through all the styling and relentless advertising to the plain truth that this Band have ONE song that theyve released 3 times in 3 dfferent chords with moderate lyric changes, Oh bore off!!!

Ok, to be honest the original release of 'I predict a riot' is a wicked tune and when Kaiser cheifs first came on to the scene i was quite excited about them due to this single, but with a mixture of radio overkill, sickly sweet interveiws and chorus's preceded by a scale of ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh's, ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh in every single song, things turned sour for me.

Employment though, is an upbeat album and whenever i hear it i always imagine brainless northeners pogoing up and down in unison at the local disco, its infectuous stuff. One of the album tracks 'na na na na na' is as by numbers as most of the singles but i would actually say it is brilliantly simple and good for dancing round like a div too.

The only track on the album that i dont find intensly annoying after 3 listens is recent single 'Modern Way' It is completely different from the rest of the singles in that it doesnt sound like its selling out by attracting a silly pop audience, its an inteligent tune reminicent of blur in their hayday, its powerful and melancholy mix making it the standout track of the album.

I predict the kaisers along with other bands clinging on for the ride wont last longer than a few years, just like britpop this second phase will dissapear up its own bumhole once we all realise that behind the ridiculous media hype only one or two bands have proper staying power.

Dont beleive the hype

Dont jump on the band wagen

Theres so much better and more original indie music out there if you can be arsed to look for it!!

Summary: Bore off back to bed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I love Ricky and the boys. They are the band that Blur could have been if they'd stuck at it !

ps. Whats a 'Band wagen' ?

Great - nice to see a different view on this album. I don't like indie anyhow - I'm off to listen to some more of my cheesy eighties pop. Hurrah! :) tom
