Advantages: Lots of genre variation, great lyrics, 14 tracks
Disadvantages: Very different from "Opheliac" and later EPs
I have been listening to this album over and over again for years. I first downloaded it for free in mp3 format in 2005 from Emilie Autumn's website, and was delighted when it was re-released, because like all Autumn's records, it sounds much better on CD.
The edition I purchased was the deluxe edition hardcover digipack, which was good value being in a set with "A Bit O' This & That", the rarities album, and a t-shirt. However, I would not recommend this edition to any but the most hardcore Emilie Autumn fans as the book which contains the CD is pretty but consists of pages of handwritten lyrics and notes which take some time to decipher - some find them illegible. The book begins with a sad fairy tale to explain the difference between EA's "Enchant" and "Opheliac" era, and there is quite some difference!
"Enchant" does not feature the complex interweaving tracks that "Opheliac" does, the harsh vocals, or the electric violin. The vocals are foremost in this album, and the lyrics are great, interesting and each telling a story. It is magical to listen to, a prettier, Celtic-influenced pop-rock album with little of the anger of "Opheliac". EA even delves into R&B style for one track!
This album has a generous 14 tracks, and they span several genres. It is clear that this era was an experimental period for the artist, as she tried different approaches to music.
Most fans prefer either "Enchant" or "Opheliac", it is unusual for people to like them equally and if you liked one but have not heard the other I would try before you buy as they are so extremely different.
The CD is most easily found at Amazon, Music Non Stop, or at her live performances. CD stores usually don't stock it.
Summary: Think you've heard it all? Try this!
