Advantages: Fast and breezy

Disadvantages: None

Enema of the State marked a change in Blink 182's style, and caused a lot of their "hardcore" fans to start questioning them as "sell outs". I personally don't like that label because, honestly, you'd have to be mentally ill not to sign a contract that guarantees you millions of dollars if you write a few albums. Just because you take more money doesn't necessarily mean that the quality of your music will decrease, and anyone criticising them for taking the money would do the EXACT same thing in their position.

It's fair to say that Enema of the State is a far more robust production than their previous works, and whilst this might deter Blink purists, I think it's still a great album with plenty of catch tracks and such forth. It's not going to win any awards for ingenuity, but it fits its target audience like a glove, and the songs are genuinely well composed. Travis Barker, whose first work appears on this album, is a great addition to the band and his drumming fits perfectly with Mark and Tom's guitars and vocals.

Blink 182 are not diverse and have never said that they were - this is a retread of the themes they've always discussed - getting laid, being juvenile, not wanting to grow up and such like. It's not new, it's not particularly clever, but it IS catchy, and it's presumed that this is a bad thing by musical elitists. That said, there is one song that's genuinely quite well written, called Adam's Song, which was written about a friend of theirs who killed himself. Some will argue its incongruent with the tone of the rest of the album, but I liked it as something different from the band.

It's not a classically written album, but it's damn catchy, the lyrics are often funny, and the songs are just fun to jump around to.

Summary: A short and sweet album
