Advantages: Doesn't take it's self to seriously
Disadvantages: Perhaps it should.
Ok, here's the deal. This is my first opinion for a while now so please ecxcuse me if I'm a little bit rusty. Ok, the basics are that Blink182 (pronounced Blink one-eighty-two) are a trio of late 20's/early 30's fully grown men who dress like 17 year olds. They are classed as a modern punk band by most although I think the increasingly popular term 'brat punk' would be more accurate. Blink are not the kind of band that take anything too seriously. I'd say they try to market themselves to people between the ages of 13-17 and most of their songs on this album(and the other 2 albums I own by them) are about high school experiences and the trials and tribulations of growing up through your teen years. Most of the songs contain a degree of bad language although it is used in a tame, humourous sense most of the time and this is probably why the bands music appeals to so many of the kids you see in the high sreets wearing Blink182 hoodies that are about 5 sizes to large for them. As for the music, the album has a lot of catchy tunes that you probably will be whistling for hours after you hear them much to the annoyance of friends and colleagues alike. When I first got this album about 2 years ago I would have probably have classed the bands skill as average but since then I have recently started playing guitar myself and after only about 6 months I can play most of the tracks on the album myself (I'll leave it to you to decide what this means but let's just say my guitar playing skills are NOT the best in the world) I suppose it would be only fair to mention that the bands drummer, Travis Barker is quite talented though and get's your feet tapping on almost every song which is probably why he and bandmate, Tom Delonge have strayed from Blink182 to join a seperate band called 'Boxcar Racer' recently. This album contains 2 of Blinks biggest hits to date which ar
e 'All the Small Things', which I think I recall being used in several TV ads, and 'What's My Age Again'. You may also recognise a song on the album which was used in the movie 'American Pie' although the name of the track escapes me at the moment (it's 5am just now, cut me a break ok!) To sum it all up I would only really purchase this album under certain conditions e.g. You're a Blink182 fan, you're getting it dirt cheap (I've bought CD's that are a lot worse) or if you fall into the age group mentioned earlier and you are a fan of this kind of music. There are a lot of modern punk bands out there today who are worse than Blink182 (Sum41 would be a fine example of this but that's another story) but there are also a lot MORE bands today who are a whole lot better. If you are looking for a light hearted punk CD to listen to I would personally recommend you look into bands such as Green day or if you want something altogether more upbeat then why not try a SKA punk band such as Reel Big Fish or The Mighty, Mighty Bosstones. Hope this helps.

I agree the best of the lot are probably Green Day. Blink 182...they've had a couple of good songs but that's all. |
