Las Vegas Grind Part 1

Premium Review Old school stripping music! (372 words)
by dangaroo - written on 29/05/09 (Very useful, 11 readings)
Rating:

Las Vegas Grind Part 1 is a cool compilation of songs which were common either live or recorded in the Las Vegas strip joints between 1956 and 1965, it's part of a 4 volume series, I've only checked out the first 2 parts so far. This is an interesting journey through a mixture of doo wop and garage, often poorly recording but surprisingly fresh, the majority of these tracks were deemed far too naughty for commercial release so the scratchy sounds of the 45's give off a poor overall recording and it seems like this compilation has done nothing to try and clean them up. The songs range from extremely catchy (both melody and lyrically) tracks through to one or two repetitive and ...

Hed Kandi - The Mix: Spring 2009

Premium Review Mmm Some kandi (388 words)
by benlepensive - written on 30/08/09 (Very useful, 15 readings)
Rating:

The Hed Kandi albums offer up dance music for people who like things a little bit funkier. This edition is spread over three discs and the tracks are mixed, menaing that you get a seamless flow of feel good summery sounding songs. The first disc gets off on a good foot, as Steve Angello reworks an old Robin S song. The new version of 'Show Me Love' has her fiesty vocal over a pounding bassline which really resonates through your whole body. Followed swiftly by Kid Cudi's garage affair 'Day N Nite,' it looks like a promising start. 'Now You're Gone' is not anything to do with Basshunter and employs the vocal talents of Lisa Millett. Kidd, Juan and Felix Baumgartner have ...

Eurovision Song Contest 2009

Premium Review Eurovision strikes again (1645 words)
by mjc121 - written on 05/09/09 (Very useful, 74 readings)
Rating:

Ever since the 2002 contest the annual smorgasbord of European 'popular' music has released the CD of the contest. Over the years the number of countries wanting to take part has increased. This year's version had 42 entries to it, or 43 if you include the Song from Georgia which was disqualified for being too political. Now the first thing is don't expect the performance of the song to be the same as in the contest. Some of the entries on the CD are sung in the participants native language where as in the contest they may have performed it, or part of it, in English. However, the advantage is that the studio tweaking etc does help to improve the sound of some of the ...
