works. As if this wasn t enough, the second CD takes the live audio from the previous year s Live Damage DVD and makes for the definitive Dark Tranquillity live CD (inasmuch as it s the only one so far). Focusing on the Damage Done era principally, there are still some choice suts from the glory days of The Gallery, and it s interesting to note just how well the radically different style of the Projector tracks fits in. Disc 1 1. Static 2. The Poison Well 3. Misery in Me 4. In Sight 5. Cornered 6. Exposure 7. No One 8. Yesterworld 9. Unfurled by Dawn 10. Midwinter / Beyond Enlightenment 11. Vernal Awakening 12. Void of Tranquillity Disc 2 1. The Wonders at ...

Damage Done - Dark Tranquillity

Premium Review Damage Done (260 words)
by Frankingsteins - written on 21/06/08 (Very useful, 4 readings)
Rating:

I can t help thinking of Dark Tranquillity s most recent three albums as a trilogy, seemingly striving to re-establish the band as the leading force in Gothenburg-style melodic death metal after the experimentation of previous releases that has now been abandoned in favour of a return to their roots. While this would soon prove to be a hindrance as the band essentially ran out of ideas and started to repeat themselves ad nauseam, the brief return to grace with Damage Done makes it one of the finer albums of their career. If Dark Tranquillity were indeed hoping to prove their credibility in the face of bands such as In Flames, whose sound had deviated far from their ...

Character - Dark Tranquillity

Premium Review Character (218 words)
by Frankingsteins - written on 21/06/08 (Very useful, 13 readings)
Rating:

Continuing to assert their loyalty to the Gothenburg genre by playing the same style over and over again, Dark Tranquillity reach a lull of mediocrity with Character that many melodic death metal fans seem bizarrely oblivious to, citing this release and its successor Fiction as some of the finest metal releases of the decade despite their owing everything to the band s older, higher quality material. The only change from Damage Done to Character is an increase in speed that starts out very exciting in The New Build, but runs out of steam completely by the time of the slower Out of Nothing and the extremely dull The Endless Feed. This is textbook melodic ...

Revival of the class sound, unhindered by the curse of the nineties. Stuck in a time warp, and not the best example of the genre.

Fantastic Songs which will ammuse you for hours ....

Nu Metal - 2000

fast, melodic, varied lost is the old sound, the mid tempo melancholy

Very little stands out. A few good riffs here and there, and the style doesn't wear thin until the second track.

Excellent live performance, great chance to hear rare songs. B-side material is mostly (and inevitably) forgettable.
