Forgotten Legends - Drudkh
by Burning_Darkness - written on 26/06/09 (Very useful, 11 readings)
Rating:
hypnotic mid-paced, nature-themed black metal. They share aspects of their sound with their much harsher sister band, Hate Forest, however whereas Hate Forest s sound is very cold and unforgiving, Drudkh lean towards a warmer, autumnal sound, with an emphasis on melancholy and sadness rather than freezing hatred. The band s name is Sanskrit for wood , and Drudkh excel at creating depressive yet beautiful atmosphere akin to being alone in a forest in the autumn at sunset. This theme is also present in the artwork, which here,as with many of Drudkh s albums, depicts a forest painted in oranges, golds, and browns, and also in the songtitles (see below). The album ...

Blood In Our Wells - Drudkh
by Burning_Darkness - written on 11/07/09 (Very useful, 23 readings)
Rating:
number with a fast beat and celebratory, folky riffing, before switching down to a slower tempo and slowly ploughing a deep furrow of the epic, sorrowful, heathen black metal that Drudkh do so well. The album is more cinematic and dramatic than its predecessors, and is respendent with hugely moving sections, full of sadness, loss, stoic pride and even joy. The album presentation completes the experience, with both the cd itself and the accompanying booklet being covered in beautiful depictions forest scenes painted in watercolours, as well as a melancholy album cover that reminds of the work of Pieter Bruegel the Elder. Ukranian history is once again the theme and the ...

The Swan Road - Drudkh
by Burning_Darkness - written on 01/07/09 (Very useful, 11 readings)
Rating:
Drudkh's third album, 'Lebedynyy Shlyakh (The Swan Road)' represents a change in direction in the band's sound. Whilst the previous releases were very relaxed and melancholy affairs, 'The Swan Road' borrows heavily from the fast rumbling, black metal style of sister band Hate Forest, as well further emphasising the folky aspects present in its predecessor 'Autumn Aurora'. The songs presented here are a mixture of high-speed black metal full of frenetic, melodic riffing with epic, open sections that are both powerful and mournful, also introducing for the first time the addition of ecstatic, hyper-melodic solos. The band dont leave their old style behind however, but rather build ...
