Advantages: Wild Dances
Disadvantages: the rest
The wonderful Eurovision song contest is something I look forward to every year. Usually culminating in a big party with friends where we dress up as countries and get hideously silly as we sing along. I know how to live. This album gathers all the entrants from the 2004 contest and is a joy to reflect back on.
What is it:
The Eurovision Song Contest is a contest where each European country submits a song and then has it voted on by all the other countries. In more recent years, it has been done through a phone vote, rather than by a panel.
On this album:
Check out the girlish delights of Anjeza Shahini doing 'The Image Of You ' which will lift the spirits. Her vocals are cute and her grasp of the English language is terrible, but the tune is so happy and carefree you really won't mind, much.
Head for 'Alexandra & Konstantin's 'My Galileo' which sounds like a howdown in redneck country, odd and pleasingly catchy and just so not commercial. On a similar scale of direness is Julie & Ludwig with 'On Again...Off Again'. Best described as a song which could have come out of 1972, it is all pseudo love lyrics and smiles. Vile.
The best track is Ruslana's 'Wild Dances.' Ruslana is some kind of tribal cavewoman thing, raised by wolves who specialises in shouting and being very feisty over some tribal drums. Energetic, original and oh it also won in 2004.
Overall:
It's Eurovision, so expect the worst. 36 songs, about 4 are decent.
Summary: hmmmm, nul points
