Evanescence - Evanescence
Advantages: Couple of good songs!
Disadvantages: Not as good as previous albums!
When I was younger, I considered Evanescence to be one of my favourite bands; I wasn't into heavy rock - I much preferred pop music, although I did really like Evanescence's songs. Although, they seemed to have disappeared and then I kind of ended up forgetting about them. So when they recently released their new album, after a number of years away from the charts, I was very curious.
For those of you who don't know, Evanescence are an American rock band who have been around since 2003. Their new album is called 'Evanescence'. The album is currently selling from Amazon for a price of £8.99 which I think is good value for money.

It has been a long time coming, but here it is! When I first heard this album, I was really disappointed. This album is not as good as their first album which was a huge success both here in the UK and in America. It seems that as time has gone on, their albums have gone worse.
Although, having said that, I do think that this album is a grower. I wasn't keen on it at all when I first heard it. However, having listened to it a couple of times, it has grown on me a bit.
Previously, Evanescence have had some highly emotional ballads (My Immortal and Lithium), although the ballads on this album are nowhere near the high standard of the mentioned ballads.
There were loads of songs which stood out for me on their debut album - I could listen to the album all the way through without skipping. However, with this album, I feel a bit...well...bored when I listen to it. I also find myself skipping some of the tracks. There aren't any tracks which really stand out for me.
Amy, the lead singer can sing well and has a good voice, which is quite powerful at times. I think her voice suit's the songs really well. However, I do find that she has quite a 'moan-y' type of voice, which I tend to get fed up of after a while. She does have a unique voice though - you can always tell an Evanescence song by her voice. It would be nice to hear some of the other members have a go at singing - just for a change.
If I had to choose a couple of songs which I do like, I would choose "What You Want" and "Oceans". They aren't outstanding songs, but they are likeable.
It is not as good as their first album 'Fallen', however if you have liked their singles in the past, I would recommend this to you!
Thanks for reading!
