This isn't to say that she didn't do a good job on stage; it's just that her acting doesn't come through enough in her voice to give the listener the full portrait of the figure she's meant to portray for a recorded version. What I've heard of the other stage production is fine, as far as they go, but they all seem to be missing the pizzazz of this first one.

Evita was Andrew Lloyd Webber's last collaboration with Tim Rice which tells the story of Eva Duarte de Peron - the woman behind Col. Juan Peron prior to and during his first term as President of Argentina until her death in 1954. The story here starts from Eva's death and then flashes back to Eva's earlier life, and follows her rise to popularity and fame until we reach full circle at her end. Of course, this musical has been on London stages as well as Broadway and I'm sure many of you may be familiar with the movie staring Madonna.
