I have to say before I start, that I LOVE Matchbox Twenty, and have done for years. It was a long wait between More Than You Think You Are and Exhile on Mainstream (although somewhat eased, by Rob Thomas- the lead singer's- solo album) but when I heard there was a semi-greatest hits being released I could barely contain myself! The songs selected from the backcatalogue of Matchbox show the fab variety of what they can do. Songs such as 'Bent', 'If You're Gone' and 'Bright Lights' show the band's softer side, with beautiful yet strong vocals from Rob Thomas and sweet yet really meaningful lyrics. Matchbox Twenty are a huge band, well, in the States anyway. Why they've never made it big here I simply cannot understand. People know the frontman, Rob Thomas, mainly from his collaboration with Carlos Santana on 'Smooth'. Exile on Mainstream is the band's fourth album. It's a sort of semi greatest hits, featuring 6 new songs and 11 from previous albums, 'Yourself or someone like you' 'Madseason' and 'More than you think you are'. The new songs are fanstastic opening with the single 'How Far We've Come' which has fantastic lyrics and a great chorus. I saw them live last summer, and when the did this it took the roof off the place. Following then ...  Read the complete review

Absorbing, mesmerising, atmospheric, good musicianship, great songs None

Great vocals, great lyrics Some weak tracks.

Some nice choruses, in a bland and cheesy sort of way. A majority of filler.

Nice epic and Mediterranean folk touches. Really bad production.

Huge amount of tracks and some excellent hits. None.

Very easy to listen to, contains some good songs, a classic Maybe a little bland here and there

The Lovecats is insanely good. The b-sides are great songs in their own right Let's Go To Bed now sounds dated, No Simon Gallup playing bass

New Wave & Post-punk - 2007

Just Dreaming - Crematory
More convincing doom metal performance. Industrial elements clash.

Knives Don't Have Your Back - Emily Haines And The Soft Skeleton

Last Night In Town - Every Time I Die
An incredible album of metalcore, fine vocal and instrumental work. Complex song structures may put some listeners off.

Last Sunset - Conception
Enjoyable early power metal, with great vocals. Progressive touches sound forced and not too impressive.

Life On Life's Terms - Bedlight for Blue Eyes
The vocal range on display here is excellent, the guitar hooks sublime. If you don't like the vocal sound of Fall Out Boy then you probably won't like this.

Live It Out - Metric
The charisma of Emily Haines, half the songs The other five songs, the lyrics are really hit-and-miss

Lyfe Change - Lyfe Jennings
Couple tracks Never gets started

Machine 15 - Millencolin
A number of excellent tracks feature on this release. Not as hard hitting an album as Millencolin releases of the past.
