Darkane are an interesting band from Sweden, combining death- and thrash metal without ending up sounding mechanised and overly concerned with speed, as is the downfall of many other practitioners. Darkane retain a focus on melody, in the mostly clean singing of Andreas Syow as well as the presence of keyboards and lead guitars, and this contrasts nicely with the heavy rhythms underpinning every song. While it's not strictly progressive in any real sense, the sound is reminiscent of Devin Townsend's work.
