      I love this album!

The title of this review was taken from "Bliss (I Don't Wanna Know) by Hinder.

Extreme Behaviour was the first album released by Hinder (apart from their EP, Far From Closer, which was released in 2003). Extreme Behaviour was released in 2005, and has a 'parental guidance' warning on it because of the use of profanity within a number of the songs within this album. The genre for this album is indie rock/punk - grunge which I think suits the album well, given the content of the songs within it.

Track listing for this album is as below:
      1 Get Stoned
      2 How Long
      3 By The Way
      4 Nothin' Good About Goodbye
      5 Bliss (I Don't Wanna Know)
      6 Better Than Me
      7 Room 21
      8 Lips Of An Angel
      9 Homecoming Queen
      10 Shoulda
11 Lips Of An Angel (Acoustic version)
      12 Room 21 (Piano version)

My personal favourite song from this album would have to be "Better Than Me" which tells the story of a person who feels that someone they are in love with is so much better than them, and that they therefore deserve better. However, they can't get them out of their head. The lyrics make this perfectly clear right from the start of this song, which isn't always the case with songs of this sort. It starts off slowly, with only the guitar playing in the background, with the rough sounding voice of Austin Winkler (lead singer) being the most prominent part of the song.

"I think you should know this, you deserve much better than me."

In my opinion, the beginning sounds like he is only remembering the way things used to be, but towards the end of the song, I think it begins to sound more desperate, more like he can't live without her, more like he needs her to simply continue to breathe - you know, the sort of song where you can really empathize with the vocals and you just want to make things better for him.

I think that in "Better Than Me", they have more of an individual and unique sound to them, but in some of the other songs on the album, "Bliss (I Don't Wanna Know)" for example, they sound more like a band like Good Charlotte, especially at the start, and then they begin to sound more like someone like Nickelback within the song. I think that this is, in some respects, a good thing, because it can give you some different artists to compare them to. However, I think that the songs where they are more individual, they sound like a better band, less like they were simply copying what was popular at the time.

      "I can't stay sober.... If it's over..."

This song is more about turning to alcohol to help to heal the spaces left by the ending of a relationships, rather than about wanting to get back into that relationship, however. The way it talks about how he is feeling in this song is quite interesting, because on the one side, he sings about how he wants to "give this train wreck one more ride", but on the other side of it, he wants it all to be over so that he doesn't have to face it all again; "we need to take a break for a while, it's been so long since I've smiled".

I would say that "Lips of an Angel" is probably my third favourite song on this album. Again, it has a much more unique sound to it rather than sounding just like a copy of someone else's music. It has a more country sort of feel to it than many of the other songs on the album, which I think adds to it appearing more unique than the others. I think the vocals are more ranged within this song, which makes it stand out more than it would have done otherwise.

"My girl's in the next room. Sometimes I wish she was you. I guess we never really moved on..."

This song is, again, about love. However, this one is about wanting to go back to someone that you were with before, but have since moved on from. It essentially talks about meeting up with an ex some time later and finding that you still love them like you did before, which is a fairly common subject for songs these days. The way that he is talking about the ex in this song makes it sound like he truly does still love her, which I think is something that the youth of today would be able to associate with, at any rate. The way he talks about her, using words to describe her such as 'angel', is something that most people would love as well.

Overall, I have to say that this album is one of the best ones that I have ever listened to. Of course, there are a few songs I like less than the others ("Room 21" is an example of this, because it simply sounds so much more upbeat and... I don't know.. Pop-like?) but I do like every song on this album. I would definitely recommend it to anyone that likes bands such as Nickelback, Creed, Good Charlotte or even All American Rejects. They're quite a good band, with a fair bit of variety within their songs, which I think would make them appeal to a number of different people who like music by a variety of different bands. I'd seriously recommend that you give them a listen if you like any of the above bands, at any rate!

A good album from a band who is not so appreciated.

I have quite an ecletic taste in music, which you will see if I can get the hang of music reviews and start reviewing more albums on here.

Hinder were first introduced to me by a friend when we were in his car and he was playing their song Better Than Me, which has fast become my favorite track of theirs.

Extreme Behaviour is a great album, and I don't think that Hinder get the recognition they deserve as they are a great band, yet no one seems to have heard of them. I love the lead singers voice, its so beautiful and sometimes sexy.

This album has 12 tracks on it, and the first being Get Stoned.
This is their most commerical track, and those people who have heard of Hinder can usually name this track quite easily.
It is a slowish song, mainly about the problems in arelationship and how getting stoned seems to make their problems temporarily go away.
I like the lead singers way of making this song sound sexy and interesting, even though it is a relativley slowish song.

The second track is How Long.
This track has a bit more "content" to it than Get Stoned, and is more catchy and easy to sing along to, yet it is still quite relaxed and charming to listen to.

The third song on the album is By the Way, which almost has a rocky edge to it. It is quite an interesting song, but I find it works better as a song to have on in the background when just chilling or reading a book.

The fourth track, entitled nothing good about goodbye is one I don't really like and have not listened too much, its another of those good in the background tracks, although it does have a good backing track, with a bit of depth to it.

The fifth song, Bliss (I don't wanna know) is a relaxed track, that is quite short, but it is a nice smooth style song, and the way it is sung makes you just sit and appreciate the track for what it is.

The sixth song, Better Than Me, is my personal favorite and has been put on repeat many a time, and is actually one of the top 25 songs played on My itunes and ipod. It is a slow, sad song about a relationship that is no longer, and the fact that although he misses her so, he knows she deserves better than him and has to accept that fact. The song has some beautiful lyrics and is sung in such a wonderful way, this song has bought me to tears before, and I just love it. If you only check out one track by Hinder, please make it this one.

Track seven is room 21, a pretty good tune, with a good beat and some cool lyrics but is, unfortunatley, another background tune in my eyes.

The eighth track, Lips Of An Angel, is another beautiful track. In this one, a guy is speaking to his ex girlfriend and is fighting with himself to cheat on his current girl with his ex, as she has the lips of an angel. This is another song with beautiful lyrics, and is sung so well, you just have to sing along, although I wish I could sing better to do this song some justice. Truly a pretty song that I think is worth a listen to a few times.

The ninth song, Homecoming queen is a catchy tune with good lyrics that has a nice summer feel to it and has a good back beat. The lead singer has quite a husky tone to this song, giving it quite a sexy vibe too. A good one to listen to outside in the sinshine.

The tenth song, Shoulda, is a generic song that could be released by any band in my eyes, but is still an ok tune, just not one that I prefer to listen to.

The eleventh song is an Acoustic version of Lips on An Angel, which gives this song a nice soft edge to it, but I am not a huge version of acoustic music, so this can lead to me feeling a little bored with the song and switching it over, but the lead singer does well on this song, and totally makes it his own.

The twelfth and final song on this album is an acoustic version of Room 21, which to me is quite boring and not one I listen to a lot, usually it gets to play when I can't be bothered to turn off the CD player or switch tunes!

I hope you listen to at least some of this album, as all in all it is a good album and one that can be bought quite cheap on Amazon, less than £5 I believe, so its not expensive and is well worth a listen to in my opinion.

      Advantages

      Disadvantages

      One to watch out for

I think I accidentally stumbled upon Hinder when browsing through YouTube and finding their song Lips of an Angel. I did some reading up on the band and found some universally negative reviews comparing them to the likes of Nickleback and Creed, but not one to take all reviews as gospel I thought I'd give the album a try.

The only single that charted in the UK was Get Stoned at position 138.

      Hinder comprises of:

      Austin Winkler - Vocals
      Joe Garvey - Guitar
      Mark King - Guitar
      Mike Rodden - Bass
      Cody Hanson - Drums

So what songs are on the cd:

      1. Get Stoned
      2. How Long
      3. By The Way
      4. Nothin' Good About Goodbye
      5. Bliss (I Don't Wanna Know)
      6. Better Than Me
      7. Room 21 (Explicit)
      8. Lips of an Angel
      9. Homecoming Queen
      10. Shoulda
      11. Lips of an Angel (Acoustic)
      12. Room 21

Now for the important part, what did I think of the album:

Generally it is quite good, although not completely flawless. I have to say my personal favourites are Lips of an Angel and Better Than Me, but I think that is because they are quite soft and sentimental songs with meaningful lyrics (I'm a softie at heart)

      1. Get Stoned

Starts off quite softly and progresses to a middle ground in terms of rock. The vocals on this song are quite gravelly, I don't think they truly show off Austins voice very well, however it is quite a catchy song with some interesting lyrics. Also has a great guitar solo.

      2. How Long

More upbeat than the previous song, but still very catchy. Think this shows off Austins voice more and again has some interesting lyrics.

      3. By The Way

This track really reminds me of 3 Doors Down more than anything, using similar styles and sounds. What I like about this track is that the combination of instruments and vocals don't overpower each other.

      4. Nothin' Good About Goodbye

Lyrically this track isn't brilliant, but still just as catchy as the others. The song has a good meaning to it and my favourite line is "Every story has two sides, over he-said-she-said fights"

      5. Bliss (I Don't Wanna Know)

I really love this song, for me it is about how hard it is to let go of all the things you hold the closest and how people hide away from the truth "I don't wanna know its over, cause ignorance is bliss" Through this song it shows how good that Hinder can be, Austins vocals on this song are superb and sang with such passion.

      6. Better Than Me

This is my ultimate favourite song on the album, it is a slower song compared to the others I have mentioned so far. The song has a beautiful melody and the lyrics have a sweet honesty to them. Austins vocals on this song are almost haunting "...and I think you should know this, you deserve much better than me"

This song showcases Austins voice more than the rest of the bands skills. Simply beautiful

      7. Room 21

A stark contrast to the previous song, much more up tempo. However, I feel that Austin is almost trying to hard on this song and I agree with the original comments that were made about the band, this has very much a Nickleback sound to it.

      8. Lips of an Angel

My second favourite song on the album, very passionate and romantic but also sad at the same time. It is basically about two people who are passionate about each other, but are in a relationship with other people. My favourite lyrics on this song "its really good to hear your voice saying my name it sounds so sweet, coming from the lips of an angel, hearing those words just make me weak"

Also this song has got a great guitar solo on.

      9. Homecoming Queen

Again, this is another up tempo song. I think this track really showcases the guitar skills. The lyrics are ok, but the vocals are nothing special on this one.

      10. Shoulda

I love this song, it is about telling someone you love them and when they don't say it back to you. The lyrics and vocals are again not brilliant, but still makes for a catchy song.

Overall, a great album to listen to and a semi-decent band, if your not sure have a listen to a couple of the tracks on their website or on youtube, I think also on Play.com you can listen to a sample of the songs.

      Cost: £7.99 from Play
