Extreme Ii - Pornograffitti - Extreme

This is a classic 90s rock / hair metal album, which was barely out of my CD player for a period of about five years! It is a concept album, loosely following the adventures of Francis (the kid on the cover) through a whirlwind tour of sex, depravity, crooked politicians, and a bit of romance and religion thrown in for good measure. The album contains a mix of songs, most of which are variations on a theme of decadence and sin. The first track, Decadence Dance opens opulently into a hardcore rock pleaser, swiftly followed by L'il Jack Horny, the title says it all really, then onto When I'm President, essentially looking at themes of political depravity. I've just stuck on Extreme's 'Pornograffitti' their second album from 1990. What a classic album it is! There isn't one duff song on the entire album - in fact every one is a killer. Extreme managed to play on the sudden glut of hair-metal bands that came out of the late 80's, but they were different in many ways. They started out really as a Van Halen inspired guitar-metal band. But by their second album had funky Chilli-Peppers style riffery as well. What also catapulted the band into the stratosphere was the single 'More Than Words'. Ok here we have "pornogragraffiti" and not a naked woman in sight thankfully, don't be put off by the title as it hardly shapes the albums feeling. This is Extremes second album originally released in 1990 and was the first album of theirs I bought. I have never regretted it since and gets a good airing from my collection even now especially when I feel the need for reminisce to my good old early years listening to rock.
