Advantages: Great songs

Disadvantages: poor album artwork

I've just stuck on Extreme's 'Pornograffitti' their second album from 1990. What a classic album it is! There isn't one duff song on the entire album - in fact every one is a killer.

Extreme managed to play on the sudden glut of hair-metal bands that came out of the late 80's, but they were different in many ways. They started out really as a Van Halen inspired guitar-metal band. But by their second album had funky Chilli-Peppers style riffery as well. What also catapulted the band into the stratosphere was the single 'More Than Words'. Its a shame then, that this band couldn't survive grunge, the way The Chilli's did.

The album kicks off with 'Decadence Dance', a huge epic belter of a song with a great hook that immdiately gets you hooked on the Extreme sound.

'lil Jack Horny' and 'When I'm President' also have that funky singalong chorus. While 'More Than Words' although overplayed, is a delicate love song.

The album crosses over many different musical styles. More Than Words. Song For Love and Hole Hearted are great love songs. When I'm President is straight balls-out Van Halen, whereas When I First Kissed You is Sinatra all over.

Pornograffitti is a much overlooked album, that is still very listenable.

Summary: A great overlooked album
