Being unemployed isn?t much fun. There?s only so long you can put up with the rubbish that is daytime TV and start getting bored. Every cloud does have a silver lining, though, so unemployment was my chance to steal control of the remote back from my flatmate and watch something other than the constant diet of Sky News and Kerrang TV that I?ve been subjected to of late. This isn?t necessarily a good move. Daytime TV still sucks, regardless of how many Cable channels you have, and I returned to browsing the music channels after a while. And here, in amongst the bubblegum pop, largely ... Read the complete review

Amy Studt may sound like a familiar name, but I'm guessing it is one of those names that you just can't quite remember where you heard it from. Dubbed the UK's version of 'Avril Lavigne', Amy Studt is a UK singer/songwriter whose debut album 'False Smiles' was released in 2003 achieving Gold status, selling over 200,000 copies peaking at number 18 in the UK Album Chart. Her second album 'My Paper Made Men' was released in early 2008 to some critical success, but I wanted to dig my copy of 'False Smiles' out and reminisce over this pop rock album. Can 'False Smiles' still appeal to an audience today or are new genres of Hip Hop and R&B taking over the music ... Read the complete review

I have always been a sucker for a reject or a popstar-in-distress. Consequently my CD collection is a bit like a popstar’s graveyard, featuring more unknowns and has-beens than this year’s Celebirty Big Brother. Struggling popstars from all over the world gradually make their way to unite on my CD rack and reside there in peace, safe in the knowledge that, though they have battled cancelled tours, unkind managers and worldwide rejection, they have finally reached a place where their true value and worth is fully appreciated. Over the years I have considered the possibility that it is maybe not me who comes to the rescue of these unfortunate singers ... Read the complete review

Angsty female soloists aren't exactly the endangered African elephants of the musical kingdom, with Pink, Avril Lavigne et al ensuring that the airwaves are currently awash with tales of non-school inclusion and parental strife. However, whilst most of this teenage bile seems to be emanating from the other side of the Atlantic, Amy Studt is rapidly becoming a more than equal exponent of the genre. Hailing from Portsmouth, 17 year old singer-songwriter Studt's debut 'False Smiles' is a surprisingly refreshing collection of radio-friendly pop songs with an angsty twist. The lead-off track was also her debut, released back in 2002 amid a ... Read the complete review

Oh not another young, pretty female pop singer we hear you chortle. And managed by Simon 'Spice Girls/S club 7/Pop Idol'Fuller?Sureley Amy Studt is not expecting us to take her seriously? Well, maybe we'll have to.Unlike other 19 management acts Amy has a say in her music. She co-writes all of her material, sings with a well spoken(albeit unremarkable)voice, unlike the american wannabe banter of S club 7 or the Spices and doesn't look like a super model.Basically the 17 year old is doing what she wants to,the way she wants to on her debut album 'False Smiles'. I remember Studt when she released 'Just a little girl'.I liked the ... Read the complete review
