Advantages: Great covers included.
Disadvantages: Too many recent songs.
This double live album was recorded at Wembley Stadium on July 21st 2000, with the exception of ‘Helter Skelter’ recorded by SFX Radio Network at the Riverside Theatre, USA, on April 16th 2000 (not that you would notice unless you read the small print). The two CD’s contain an amazing mix from the mid 90’s to their latest work, not to mention some B-Sides and cover versions: CD 1: Fuckin’ In The Bushes Go Let It Out Who Feels Love? Supersonic Shakermaker Acquiesce Step Out Gas Panic! Roll With It Stand By Me CD 2: Wonderwall Cigarettes & Alcohol Don't Look Back In Anger Live Forever Hey Hey, My My Champagne Supernova Rock'N'Roll Star Helter Skelter (All songs written by Noel Gallagher except: Step Out – Gallagher/Wonder/Cosby/Moy; Hey Hey, My My – Neil Young; and Helter Skelter – John Lennon & Paul McCartney) The CD cassette itself is a little disappointing. The cover is a bit drab with a Noel and Liam pictures blended together, and the sleeve contains just a few interesting images of the band and the Wembley Crowd. Although the CD’s themselves do have a blueprint copy of the Stadium itself. But this album is about the music, and that’s what you get. In-between the songs you can get a feel for the crowd, and almost picture what it must have been like for the sell-out 70,000 crowd. Unfortunately you sometimes hear Liam at his normal abusive self. Fans of the earlier Oasis tunes will not be disappointed. Supersonic, Cigarettes & Alcohol, and Rock’N’Roll Star are belted out at their very best with terrific drums beats and guitar riffs. And B-Tracks such as Acquiesce and in my view the best track on the album, Step Out, are given full justification of a live performance. Those of you that have listened to their latest al
bum, Standing On The Shoulders Of Giants, will be forgiven for thinking the early part of this album is simply a promotional product. But lets not forget that this is a live album, there is a new line up of members and that this tour was promoting a new era for Oasis. Overall, this album has been produced brilliantly and those who saw the first Wembley gig live or on Sky TV, will not be disappointed with the outcome. This album is a must for all Oasis fans and an excellent demonstration of live rock music at its very best.
