Advantages: Two reasonable songs
Disadvantages: Bad lyrics, Bad tunes, Bad singing
This is a terrible album. Full stop. Let me give you a little history on why this album sounds so crap. The misfits are the greatest band on earth. They had an incredibly talented singer named Glenn Danzig who went on to bigger and better stuff after he had had enough in 1983. Then the bassist Jerry and his brother Doyle (guitar) formed the misfits again back in 95 after a big courtcase against Glenn Danzig and Caroline records. Basically Glenn wrote all the old misfits stuff including everything for all the instruments. Hell, he would have played them all himself if he had enough arms! Here is a good list of why this album sucks! - The new singer is okay but his voice does not suit "misfits" style. -Doyle cant play leads! how crap is that, i can play leads, even then i wouldnt join their crap band -The lyrics are piss poor. Especially if you compare them to the old misfits stuff. -C'mon, songs like Pumpkin head and Scarecrow Man? Hah dont make me laugh -Although the music is pretty original, i have never heard anything this crap. -Completely different to old misfits. Theres no aggression! The lyrics arent particularly sick or violent, as if they're selling out to a wider audience. -Look at them they are too glam-rock. They used to be classed as hardcore punk! -Too much pop. Britney is more hardcore than these guys -Too much album fillers. -Standard Power Chords with a couple of half-arsed solos. No originality in terms improvisation of guitars. -Look at them, theyre 40 year old gits with face paint. They look like clowns from childrens parties. The whole point is to look like a scary psycho, not a stupid paedophile. There are two good songs: -Saturday night: very nice rhythm classic C-Aminor-F-G chords as used in every nice sounding oldie. But the lyrics are crap. The opening line goes "there are 52 ways to murder anyone, one and two are the same,
but they both work as well". Oh please! -Forbidden Zone: pretty good sound although this song kind of builds up to an anti climax, as the verse gets you thinking "oh yeah" and then it falls on its head with a shit chorus. Too be honest i really did want to like this album but it was just so bad! Just get old misfits stuff and stay away from the new stuff. Get the box set or get the individual CDs ie collections 1 and 2 and static age. Its up to you though. If you like cheesy pop punk rock with a bit of sissy commercial sounding metal added in for effect, you may like this. If you like Punk loud and fast as it should be, living up to the great old misfits name, youll be dissappointed . In fact, why don't you just pop down to tescos and buy yourself £15 worth of cheese, because thats what you'll be doing if you bought this. Either that, or buy this CD as a present for someone you don't like. To make matters worse, this isnt even the 'new' misfits' best album, American Pyscho is much better. I hope this review prevents you from making a big mistake but i also hope you will use it buy any of the old misfits stuff instead because that was revolutionary! I may seem pretty biased considering that the old misfits is my favourite band but when glenn danzig left, its like taking an engine out of a car and expecting it to drive. But heres a simple guide to help you decide: you may hate this if: - you like the old misfits - listen to any reasonably heavy music - hate cheesy music with crap lyrics you may like this if: - you like cheese - you've just regained your hearing (anything will sound good then, though) - the old misfits was too heavy for you - you are around 13 years old and listen to slipknot - you're a moron thanx

- 01/05/04 Frankingsteins: my musical interests mainly lie in hardcore punk in bands like the Misfits, Unseen, Zeke etc although i do like most punk. In terms of metal: I like some stuff like Machine Head and Danzig, but over the past year or two ive got more into black metal and ive started listening to Inflames and Children of Bodom. If you dont already listen to Inflames, i really recommend them: get "Clay Man" and "another day in quicksand".
Too be honest, i do actuclly like one "cheese fits" album and thats project 1950, but they're all covers of oldies which are good songs in their own right and oldies mixed with punk is a pretty cool way to go. |

- 28/04/04 Adding to my earlier comment, I actually like Michale Graves' vocals- granted they're not 'Evil Elvis'-style Danzig, but I think they suit the new style and lyrics, especially in songs like "Scream" and "Dig Up Her Bones" on the other album. Still, great reviews! I'd be interested to know whether you like metal, and what kind. |
