The Road To Freedom - Chris De BurghMark S reviews the new album from Chris de Burgh (480 words)

For those who are looking for ground breaking music, then this is not the album for you. If, like me you have followed Chris de Burgh from when he first broke onto the scene with albums like Crusader and Spanish Train, then there will be some parts of this album that remind you of just how good C de B was, when the lyrics and songs were full of injenuity with tales of Christian crusades, games of Poker between the devil and the Lord and of dubious ladies removing all their clothing, whilst an alien spacemen visited us about the time of Christ. Songs like the rose of England conjure up the magic and warmth that was Satin Green Shutters, with the familiar sounds of ...

love songs in there, but then that's what he does best. But aside from those, there's also some quite strong tracks, more rocky than the rest, but still in the C Chris De Burgh style I know so well. Yes – that's right – some of his songs are more like a ...

I did sort of suggest this to Excelle. Watch out for his review of Soulfly’s debut album. Anyway, I suppose I had better start. According to Allmusic.com’s, C Chris De Burgh is “An art-rocker that occasionally writes pop-oriented material” uhuh, OK. Happily they classify him as “Adult Contemporary” which sounds like just the place for him – as he’s an adult and is not yet dead. This album is his ‘best of’ so what I will be reviewing will be the absolute best material he has produced. Will I be surprised – maybe, after all – the only one of his songs I can think off the top of my head is “Lady ...
